Detox Time Again!!

I recommend everyone do at least TWO solid months of detox per year, but I would prefer the pursuit of a lifestyle that promotes detoxification. We are heading into our Hair Analysis, and BIA anlysis… we will have many of you learn A LOT about your needs to be clean, and where those needs are greatest.

So what do you need to know about the Challenge?  First off, if you are doing this right, you will get some great advantage over 30 days, without having to kill yourself with your diet.  If you do it great, you will get incredible results with a bit of a commitment on your diet!  There are two components.

1. The Suero-Viv Challenge.  Suero Viv has been a regular part of my diet for the last three months, and I have been blown away by it.  I regularly was drinking coconut water, as I believe hydration is a difficult place to get to when working hard all day, and working out really hard.  So you have to understand that I was VERY skeptical of Beyond Organic products at first.  Especially given the price of beef relative to the price that I get amazing beef through Indian Creek Angus (we are ordering soon so if you want more, let us know now).

Point is, I expected little, and was amazed by the results.  Where I never actually felt the hydration effect of any drink, I could actually feel hydrated after drinking a Suero-viv.  Even though it is really quite comparable to Coconut Water, it just had that extra boost.  I have come to realize, it is the cultured Whey.  Something about a cultured whey protein simply drives hydration.  And though I cannot say with certainty that it is the detoxifying effect of the whey, I believe strongly that it is.

Probiotic rich foods are detoxifiers all on their own, but when it is a cultured protein (vs. carb component like so many naturally occuring probiotic foods), they go to a new level of detoxifying.  It is due to the fact that it is cultured protein vs. carbohydrate/sugar.  So the Suero-challenge is a hydration/detox challenge.  Here is the Hydration 101 workshop on detoxification:

  • Toxins cause fluid to be retained in the toxic areas, which are around the cells, retention of this fluid increases the peripheral resistance around your blood vessels, thus increasing blood pressure.  The problem is likely that you are toxic.  Hydration allows the water into the cell, to drive normal function.  You need hydration that detoxifies you.  Everyone should move into using Suero viv.
  • EVERYONE OF YOU ON A BLOOD PRESSURE MED NEEDS THE SUERO CHALLENGE

The Suero Challenge is simply to drink 1-2 Suero Viv’s per day over the course of 30 days.  Liquid fast over one meal period everyday, using the Suero as your meal.  Skipping any meal is satisfactory, it doesn’t matter.

Coconut Water is good for hydration, but not for DETOX.

2.  Daily Detox.  We have been using Daily Detox as the number one, gentle on your system, awesome at removing neuro-toxic metals and other toxins, daily detoxifying supplement.  I use this product, my wife uses this product, I have used it with my kids.  It is gentle and everyone can utilize it as a way to clean out the nervous system.

Because of its Glutathione precursors (glutathione is the most powerful and prevalent detoxifying agent in your body), it helps every cell build more glutathione, and eevntually builds your ability to clear out cancer causing agents.  Twice a year minimum for one month.  That is my best recommendation.  In addition, the activated carbon/charcoal, is awesome at binding toxins in the large intestine, and porting them out.  This prevents re-tox.

So the whole 30 Day Plan looks like this if you do it all:

  1. One or two bottles of Suero-viv daily as a replacement for one meal.  Consume nothing but liquids from the prior meal, to the next meal (could be from lunch to breakfast the following day if you choose).
  2. 12-24 hour liquid fast each week.  This is in addition to the 4-6 hour fast that you should be doing each day.
  3. 8 glasses of water everyday, with fresh squeezed lemon (this is to alkalize the body, aiding in detox).
  4. Juice Plus – which can be opened and dumped into a liquid.  This is for the power of the greens, which are more potent than any green powder on the market.  For those who have a surplus of juice plus from missing days, this is a good time to use it up, by double dosing daily for a period of time.
  5. Daily Detox

Do Pesticides cause Parkinson’s?

There is a great new Mercola.com article titled, US Study Links Pesticides to Parkinson’s.  Before reading it, I thought, “Of course they cause Parkinson’s”, and as I read the article, I thought “there needs to be more meat here”!

So here I am, providing the meat for the argument against pesticides, and for organic farming and agriculture, so that we can all try to avoid another stupid man made disease!

In my toxic body presentation I discuss the presence of Arsenic in many pesticides and Uranium in some fertilizers.  Uranium, as you can imagine, is not something you want to get close to, but it is useful in production; it is used in phosphate based fertilizer production, and can be leeched into the fertilizers.  Arsenic is commonly used because it is an effective poison at limiting energy production, which is why it is so great.  It literally causes organs to simply shut down because they can no longer produce energy!

So reading the article on Mercola’s web-site, it refers to Rotenone inhibiting energy production in the cells, which comes from the arsenic based pesticide.  This pesticide and another were both found to increase the likelihood of Parkinson’s because of inhibiting the ability of the brain to produce energy.  So in conclusion, we can expand the concern of increased chances of Parkinson’s to ingesting all forms of arsenic.

I have often spoke of why my children have never been to McDonald’s, and why they don’t get chicken tenders from anywhere (Kroger, Tyson, Publix, etc, etc)… because all of those sources of chicken (Chick-fil-A included) have been found to have arsenic.  The reason why the chicken has arsenic, is because the feed (pesticide treated feed) has arsenic.

It isn’t good enough to eat fruits and vegetables that are clean (and be sure to follow the guidelines here ), but you need to consider the impact of any pesticide treated food.  Meats can be especially dangerous because of the toxic process of bio-accumulation.  If a plant is treated, and an insect eats from that plant, the insect will be heavily toxified if not killed, if a bird (chicken) eats those toxic insects, then that bird will become even more toxic.  So any surviving pests become a great source for increased bio-accumulation in other food sources.

So back to Parkinson’s.  In Parkinson’s, the substantia-nigra of the brain is degenerated, leading to movement patterns that break down, as well as other symptoms that relate to ones reward and addiction complexes.  It is a unique condition in that secondary symptoms beyond movement are very difficult to quantify across broad patient populations.  The substantia nigra has cells that bind very readily to toxic metals, aluminum, mercury and arsenic are the leading metals in this group.  As such, your exposure to anything that has these three metals, increases your risk of Parkinson’s.  Aluminum from cookware, tin cans, anti-perspirants… Mercury from medications, vaccines, and personal care products like make-up… and Arsenic in about every non-organic food you ingest.

Low Fat Hypothesis is DEAD

…These researchers point out that there are plenty of reasons to suggest that the low-fat-is-good-health hypothesis has now effectively failed the test of time. In particular, that we are in the midst of an obesity epidemic that started around the early 1980’s, and that this was coincident with the rise of the low-fat dogma. (Type 2 diabetes, the most common form of the disease, also rose significantly through this period.) They say that low-fat weight-loss diets have proved in clinical trials and real life to be dismal failures, and that on top of it all, the percentage of fat in the American diet has been decreasing for two decades. Our cholesterol levels have been declining, and we have been smoking less, and yet the incidence of heart disease has not declined as would be expected. ”That is very disconcerting,” Willett says. ”It suggests that something else bad is happening.”

The science behind the alternative hypothesis can be called Endocrinology 101, which is how it’s referred to by David Ludwig, a researcher at HarvardMedicalSchool who runs the pediatric obesity clinic at Children’s Hospital Boston, and who prescribes his own version of a carbohydrate-restricted diet to his patients. Endocrinology 101 requires an understanding of how carbohydrates affect insulin and blood sugar and in turn fat metabolism and appetite. This is basic endocrinology, Ludwig says, which is the study of hormones, and it is still considered radical because the low-fat dietary wisdom emerged in the 1960’s from researchers almost exclusively concerned with the effect of fat on cholesterol and heart disease. At the time, Endocrinology 101 was still underdeveloped, and so it was ignored. Now that this science is becoming clear, it has to fight a quarter century of anti-fat prejudice.

The alternative hypothesis also comes with an implication that is worth considering for a moment, because it’s a whopper, and it may indeed be an obstacle to its acceptance. If the alternative hypothesis is right — still a big ”if” — then it strongly suggests that the ongoing epidemic of obesity in America and elsewhere is not, as we are constantly told, due simply to a collective lack of will power and a failure to exercise. Rather it occurred, as Atkins has been saying (along with Barry Sears, author of ”The Zone”), because the public health authorities told us unwittingly, but with the best of intentions, to eat precisely those foods that would make us fat, and we did. We ate more fat-free carbohydrates, which, in turn, made us hungrier and then heavier. Put simply, if the alternative hypothesis is right, then a low-fat diet is not by definition a healthy diet. In practice, such a diet cannot help being high in carbohydrates, and that can lead to obesity, and perhaps even heart disease. ”For a large percentage of the population, perhaps 30 to 40 percent, low-fat diets are counterproductive,” says Eleftheria Maratos-Flier, director of obesity research at Harvard’s prestigious JoslinDiabetesCenter. ”They have the paradoxical effect of making people gain weight.” …

Last Day of School

I have a simple and very short Daily Sprout for you today.  This is the last day of school in Cherokee County.  It is a special day… a symbolic day.  But really important, for those who have kids in school and those who do not.  This is a day to remember that life is to be enjoyed.

Many times we get caught up in the negative areas of life, and we fail to enjoy it.  My Father-in-law has been in a rough place for nearly three months following his back surgery.  This has been really tough on my wife and my mother in law.  They have been beaten up by it, and joy has been hard to find many times.  Just like I would tell you to find joy, I need to tell them.  Amid all of the difficulty, joy is necessary.

So… I pray that you will find joy this summer.  I love and appreciate you all.  God Bless and Be Well!

Can antibiotics relieve chronic lower back pain? Study suggests treatment may cure pain

As many as four in 10 cases of chronic lower back pain are probably caused by bacteria, and treatment with antibiotics may cure them, a study showed.

As many as 80 per cent of the participants with persistent back pain following a herniated disc and swelling in the spine reported an improvement after taking antibiotics three times daily for 100 days, Danish scientists wrote in research published by the European Spine Journal.

At first read, this would be really intriguing, and for many people it will be, and for many doctors, it will be, but I see some things right off the bat, that make me question this.  I was able to read the abstract myself, and immediately found that the author of this Bloomberg Article either did not understand what he was reading when he read the study, or simply lied because they had a reason to… be it selling the news, or promoting a drug.  Regardless, he needs to re-read the research.

Considering the Journal’s stated reason for being developed… no wonder.  Devotion to surgery, not devotion to prevention, education and risk reduction.  Nope.  Devoted to surgery.  The funny thing, if you read excerpts from the summits these groups hold, you will see things like “improve the human anatomy through surgical intervention”.  Now it doesn’t take a Jesus Freak like myself to realize that their assumption is that the body is bad, and man can improve it.  So, for all the evolutionists out there… does this mean that millions of years of evolution has failed?  And for those like me… God failed?  Or perhaps, we have actually been the ones who failed given the way we treat ourselves?  Diet, exercise, posture, stress… doh!  Read on from the Journal:

“European Spine Journal” is a publication founded in response to the increasing trend toward specialization in spinal surgery. The Journal is devoted to spine surgery and all related disciplines, including functional and surgical anatomy of the spine, biomechanics and pathophysiology, diagnostic procedures, and neurology. The aim of “European Spine Journal” is to support the further development of highly innovative European spine surgery and to provide an integrated and balanced view of diagnostic, research and treatment procedures that will enhance effective collaboration among specialists worldwide.  

I would say this teeters on the potential good of surgery, but a little more aggressively than we like.  So the article is indeed an interesting one.  But the thing that the journalist who summarized the article missed, is that the stats involved, were of a special group of low back pain patients with specific modic type 1 changes.  These changes occur when the internal scaffolding structure of the vertebrae are altered, primarily fractured internally.  These fractures aren’t diagnosed as fractures, hence the terminology of modic changes.

My point is that these changes rarely occur in youthful patients, and occur in elderly about 30% of the time.  Meaning, if we look at all low back patients, you probably will see about 10% of all patients with modic changes.  Then from there, you will see the percentage of those with herniation of the disc at 25%, or 2.5% of all low back pain patients, and now 8 out of 10 of them will respond.  Meaning 2% of all low back cases.

But here is the problem.  When is the cure worse than the disease?  They are talking about chronic antibiotic use, upwards of 90 days and pushing towards 6 months.  Do you recall the JAMA article in 2004 that showed a huge increase risk of cancer from using antibiotics over 170 cumulative days in your life?  That would happen really quickly if you take the suggested dosage time of 6 months (182 days).

Sure, in the end, there are a small percentage of people who have an infection causing pain.  But the reality is that your best bet to health, is to pursue it.  With a passion and a desire that drive your decisions.  Period.  There are a lot of docs out there talking about helping people.  Step one to help, is to get people focused on the true story of health.

The Crazy Hidden Ingredients in Frozen Yogurt

I feel a little bad writing this article because I know it is going to burst a lot of bubbles. Especially since it’s almost Summer time and what could be more satisfying than a delicious frozen treat.

Well folks, the new Fro-Yo craze is just CRAZY. There have been so many Fro-Yo places opening around me, my head is spinning. You can make a lot of money when you feed people chemicals and not real food and the creators of these companies and products know this.

I can hear your moaning now – but they said it was “organic”, it contains that “healthy bacteria”, but … but … but “It’s all natural”….NO.

Please don’t give into the hype! Frozen yogurt is a highly processed product. 

Even when they market all these little buzz words, these places are still serving processed dairy products with harmful additives that could affect your health. None of the places that have opened recently near me are “certified organic” which means they can add whatever they want to that delicious frozen mixture.

Let’s look at some facts about some of the questionable ingredients I’ve found –

1. At Yoforia – The slogan on the wall in their store says “I’m homemade, organic and delicious” – it should be “I’m homemade in a laboratory with artificial transfat, GMOs and petroleum ridden blue food coloring!” This is what I found when I researched what was exactly in my favorite flavor and I almost cried. I’d been eating this stuff every time I passed it at the Mall! The worst part is that they take pride in providing their ingredients on the side of each cup – however, they fail to put what else is in your yogurt if you pick any other flavor other than plain. What jerks, right?

Some Facts about food coloring:

Blue 1 is used to color candy, beverages and baked goods and may cause cancer. Blue 2, found in pet food, candy and beverages, has caused brain tumors in mice.

Red #40 is used in cherries (in fruit cocktails), baked goods and candy. It causes thyroid tumors in rats, and may cause them in humans as well, and linked to hyperactivity in children.

Yellow 5 & 6 are the third most often used food colorings, it is found in many products, including baked goods, candy, gelatin and sausages. It can contain small amounts of carcinogens and linked to hyperactivity in children.

Ingredients in TCBY Butter Pecan Frozen Yogurt:

Skim Milk, Maltodextrin, Polydextrose, Non Fat Dry Milk, Contains 2% or Less of: Erythritol, Maltitol Syrup, Emulsifier and Stabilizer (Propylene Glycol Monoesters, Mono & Diglycerides, Guar Gum, Locust Bean Gum, Carrageenan), Natural & Artificial Butter-Pecan Flavor (Propylene Glycol, Water, Alcohol, Caramel Color), Condensed Skim Milk, Calcium Carbonate,Caramel Color, Whey Protein Concentrate, Disodium Phosphate, Sucralose, Acesulfame Potassium, Vitamins A & D. Milk cultured with the following live active cultures: B. lactis, L. acidophilus, L. bulgaricus, L. lactis, L. casei, S. thermophilus, L. rhamnosus. Contains: Milk.

2. The majority of brands (Pinkberry, Frozen Isle, TCBY, etc.) are using dairy that is not certified organic – this means their yogurt is full of potential antibiotics and growth hormone that conventional dairy farms use on their cows. Also those cows are likely fed genetically modified feed. The reason they have to inject these cows with antibiotics is because they feed the cows corn (which is cheaper than grass!) and this causes the cow to be sick. The growth hormone just beefs up the cow (pun intended) to get bigger when it’s time to use them for their meat. It’s a sad and cruel process not just for the cows, but for humans too. The antibiotics and growth hormones are passed down to us in the form of their milk and this causes a multitude of problems including leading to many types of cancers. If you’d like to learn more about this – I highly recommend reading “The China Study” by T. Campbell, it’s fascinating to say the least.

3. The added sugar content of all these places is just ridiculous – For their standard serving size (about 5 ounces) it starts at 20 grams. I know milk has naturally occurring lactose sugar which should account for about a third of that – but why are they adding three additional teaspoons of just pure processed sugar to my yogurt!  Many brands (TCBY, Frozen Isle, etc) use genetically engineered corn syrup and other processed sugars too. Processed sugar makes your skin dull, causes weight gain, and creates an inflammatory response in your body. When your body is inflamed, you can start to develop all sorts of ailments like asthma, arthritis, or even cancer.
