Dr. Eric here, I have to cut out in the AM at 11 so I don’t miss my Daughters Pre-K graduation. We forgot to post this because of the Friday confusion (we are completely closed for adjustments, open for massage only on Friday). Anyways, tomorrow – Wednesday May 15th, I am out at 11am, but Dr. Levi is still in with interns til 11:30, and then we are all back at 3:30pm as usual.
I need to point this out, inevitably it happens every time I leave. Someone walks in at 10:45am thinking, “I am 15 minutes early, I will get adjusted by Dr. E”, then of course, there are ten people who thought the same thing, but got there 1 minute early. And so I walk out and they didn’t get adjusted. If you want to see me in the AM, please plan to be there by 10:30am. If I miss my daughters graduation, I will have three ladies who will want my head! Thanks for understanding.
I will be in Saturday from 8:30am to 9:15am. Usually have opportunities to see plenty more people than my average Saturday, so come early and get adjusted on Saturday for a make up if need be!
You may have seen the addition of the Nerium skin product around the office lately, and of course if something new comes in, I need to write about it! Interesting thing this Nerium, my first exposure to it was a patient telling me that their Dermatologist recommended this product, and they wanted to compare it to the Beyond Organic product.
They needed to be treating their skin with something healthy, not chemical rich, and the Dermatologist was offering Nerium as a solution. So I checked it out, and offered my opinion “Beyond Organic is one ingredient better than Nerium, but Nerium is about six ingredients better than Mary Kay/Arbonne, which are both about six more ingredients better than a typical department store brand.”
Why does all of this matter? Well, if you remember my series on the Beyond Organic skin care, the skin is the largest organ in the body. It absorbs almost everything that is rubbed on it (requires some fat soluble ingredient to get through the skin), and it is very responsive to chemicals over time (see google search on skin cancer caused by sunscreen). The Skin is important in ways you never even think about…
… It is the FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE against every viral agent you touch!
This is a big deal, and you should treat it as such, your skin is important, and you have likely been destroying it for a long time. My daughters have used mostly truly organic products on their bodies in the bath and shower since birth. An expensive, but valuable investment. I have been very appreciative of the beyond organic products that have come out for the hair and body, and the skin care. But there is a pricing issue, and a complexity issue that posts a significant barrier to entry. It is an expensive up front investment. Though my wife has used it and loved it, and though the “kit” is close to $300, her time to use it is about 3 months, so the $100 a month is in line with the other popular options. Enter Nerium.
So, I never got in the habit of using the beyond organic. I tried to stay consistent with the night cream, but that was about it. Then via Dr. Samara, I decided to take the step to try out the Nerium product. Again, very clean stuff, and with a powerful growth curve, I figured it must have something to it. I gave it a try, and i have liked it. Two weeks in, and the one step (this part is really important for the men, one step, only one thing to do) night cream has been used by me close to 70% of the time (I have never even washed my face at night, so this is a pretty big accomplishment for me).
What I am looking for
After my dissertation on the importance of the skin, what do I care about the face for, what would I be hoping to see from a nighttime facial cream? Well, the first is that I want to age with minimal wrinkles and cracks. Why? These areas are more weakened, they are more susceptible to changes that can allow infection, fungus (yeast), and other microbes to find residence. I wouldn’t mind maintaining my appearance either. As much as we all want to be completely free of that, I do have a wife whom I wish to WOW for her entire life.
I am also looking for cells that maintain high levels of hydration. Increased fluid (also means less wrinkles), is a sign of cellular health, which is more resistant to mutation and change. Thus, the face, the place that has the most sun exposure, is an important place to be hydrated and functional. I want to be resilient. I rarely use sunscreen, the beach is pretty much it. Otherwise, I rely on steady sun exposure to build up my Melanin naturally.
I think it might just work to do all those things that I hope for, and more… should I nee more. Based on the images above, and the testimonials that I have read and personally seen now, there is definitely something to this. So what about you? Whats next?
Well, Dr. Samara will hook you up with a trial of the product should you so desire. After which, you are looking at a price under $100 a month. But I think the thing that is really cool, if you introduce three people, then you get yours free. Kind of a nice way to take care a piece of your skin health expense.
The Beyond Organic shampoo, conditioner, body wash kit is around the same price. I recommend you try them both. Expensive. Yeah, but you probably wasted a bunch of money on something unhealthy last month, so cut that out.
Be well Be blessed, we’ll continue to bring the best that we can to you! – Dr. E
I need to write this Daily Sprout for a number of reasons, not the least being a call to prayer for Kitty Jones. She has been a patient since July of 2008. I have seen her weekly for most of that time, more often at first. Kitty has done well under our care, very well. But now, she has suddenly turned for worse.
Let me back up.
When she first came in, she explained that she has been on seizure meds for 20 years approximately, due to a seizure at the time, and a diagnosis of the disorder. Her seizures had been in check for years. In addition, she suffered from some kidney dysfunction as well, and some other mild issues. What makes this story ironic, is that I have been pushing Kitty to write a testimonial for me recently. I actually was ready to record her giving her testimonial, only a month and a half ago. She didn’t want to that day because she hadn’t come ready to be recorded… I understand, that can be an intimidating proposition… to live indefinitely on my web site. Its good to be prepared. 🙂
So the reason why I had planned this testimonial, is because Kitty has reported back to me, for 4 years now, increased kidney function every time she saw the nephrologist. She started with me somewhere around 30% kidney function, and has worked her way up close to 70% kidney function. I so appreciate her filling in the details each time, “well the doctor still doesn’t understand how its possible, but we know the truth”. She has had miraculous healing in her body.
So now we get to the last month. She suddenly started having seizures, and they have turned into a significant problem. Since April 4th she has been admitted to the hospital. I recently left her a message that if there was any chance to get away, I would like to see her, but as we got in touch with her son (also a patient) today, he made it clear that she won’t be traveling anywhere at this time.
More recently, she has had confusion. The greatest problem with that, is that following a bunch of seizure activity, there could be serious reasons for this. And the bigger problem, is that the doctors have no idea why she is confused. So, as we spoke with her son today, we asked if there were particular areas of prayer that we could focus on, and he specifically asked that we pray that the doctors be given a clear understanding of why she is in this state. So we ask that of you.
And here is where I am. I have had many patients get well from seizures under our care. To have one fall back into seizures under my care feels bad. I hate that this could happen, but I also except it. I don’t have control over what goes on inside, we only have the ability to move the bone to free a nerve. If the body is bent on seizures, then we cannot help. But it still feels pretty bad.
My point, there is a time for prayer, and a time to lay down our desire for control, and to give it all up to God. Pursue health with all that you can, but be submissive to the reality that it is still not in our control.
I love being involved with a company like Beyond Organic. Just like I love being involved with Juice Plus and Nerium. I have been fortunate to fall into relationship with leaders and companies who are on a mission, and will not compromise for profit. In addition, they go the extra mile, putting themselves in more difficult positions in order to create better health/better products/better environments.
I would love for you to take the time to read this article from the Beyond Organic Insider.
It’s no secret that how we manage our land and our other resources—from the local level to the global level
—has everything to do with sustainability and the very future of our having any fertile land left on the earth. And simply put, farming methodologies are either part of the problem or part of the solution.
At Beyond Organic, we’re happy to say that we’re part of the solution.
Specifically, we know that the land requires cattle and other livestock to feed on it in order to become and to remain fertile and vital. It’s the way in which this is done that’s key, too.
This idea, of course, goes against what the prevailing notion that the number of cattle and other livestock’s grazing—and overgrazing—are what lead to land becoming degraded, ending up more like deserts than rich, green, fertile grasslands. This process of land becoming more like deserts is called “desertification,” and it’s a major global issue we’ve been contending with, continue to contend with, and an issue that could very well be our demise in the future—if we don’t fix it.
While most people or organizations involved with righting the problem of desertification before it’s too late believe that livestock feeding is the problem, a man named Allan Savory—and we at Beyond Organic—believe that proper livestock feeding is actually the solution to reversing desertification.
It’s called “holistic management and planned grazing.”
Allan Savory, born in 1935, is a Zimbabwean biologist, farmer, soldier, environmentalist and winner of the Banksia International Award (seen as the most prestigious environmental award in Australia) and the 2010 Buckminster Fuller Challenge, which is an annual international design competition that awards $100,000 to the most comprehensive solution to a pressing global problem. He’s also the originator of holistic management—and he’s seen it work.
The truth is that Savory is well known internationally for his efforts, findings, research and amazing results in making successful and far-reaching changes in restoring the world’s grasslands. In fact, Prince Charles of Wales highlighted Allan Savory as an example of a forward thinker in global effects to combine sustainability and agriculture in his August 2012 speed to the IUCN World Conservation Congress. Here’s some of what Prince Charles had to say:
“I have been particularly fascinated, for example, by the work of a remarkable man called Allan Savory in Zimbabwe and other semiarid areas, who has argued for years against the prevailing expert view that is the simple numbers of cattle that drive overgrazing and cause fertile land to become desert. On the contrary, as he has since shown so graphically, the land needs the presence of feeding animals and their droppings for the cycle to complete, so that soils and grassland areas stay productive. Such that, if you take grazers off the land and lock them away in vast feedlots, the land dies.”
Prince Charles adds, “Ultimately, his form of farming is one that mimics nature by managing domestic livestock to behave more like the migratory wild herbivores that co-evolved with these and savannas, and thus, does not separate conservation of the land from the process of farming it. It is this kind of nature-based approach to finding solutions that needs to be fostered.”
Fortunately, Savory’s approach is catching on. Thousands of families, corporations and businesses use the holistic management framework developed by Savory to radically improve the quality of their lives to regenerate the resource base that sustains them, including keeping their lands fertile and resilient.
And we at Beyond Organic are a part of it. We believe in it—and we practice it.
Since this is a primary practice at Beyond Organic, I’d like for you to view this video of Savory speaking about holistic management. He’s adamant that this is the only answer to desertification, a problem that is increasing worldwide and threatens our very existence—and I agree with him.
You’ll be riveted by his presentation, including the “before” and “after” photos of desert-like lands that he has turned back into lush, green grasslands through this simple, nature-mimicking method.
Dr. Mercola gives a big push to turmeric, like he should. I have been consuming it in the Beyond Organic Terrain Product, and love the health benefits! Primarily, for me, the anti-inflammatory benefits. When you work out hard, and cause serious inflammation, it is nice to have multiple anti-inflammatory foods in your diet. If you haven’t heard my Juice Plus Inflammation workshop, you are missing out on understanding the huge anti-inflammatory benefit of the food combination present in the fruit capsules.
So take a listen to this video as Dr. Mercola talks about the benefit of turmeric as an anti-oxidant. Listen to how he is selling his version of the product. He is correct in that you should not have a processed turmeric, but raw. This is why Beyond Organic has created an awesome product, because it comes in a solution base of probiotic rich fermentation.
The Turmeric Terrain is best used by taking a swig daily. This will boost your anti-oxidant levels in your body, as well as reduce inflammation throughout the body. Dr. Weil was once considered the most well-known medical doctor in the world, coming off of multiple successful books and speaking tours. He wrote a pretty nice article on turmeric on his blog.
So a question I have gotten in the past… “Who should take it”?
The Terrain Turmeric formula should be in anyone’s fridge who fits any of these descriptions:
Creates inflammation through either hard, or long workouts (me).
Has allergies, or other immune response issues that show signs of inflammation (these would include, rash, hives, common wheezing).
Retain fluid in either your extremities (ankles and wrists) or your face.
Has any inflammatory disease diagnosis (arthritis, myalgia, or other -itis disorder).
How to use Turmeric in other ways? Livestrong.com offers some ideas as how to add Turmeric into your life. In addition, a google search for adding turmeric to your diet will give you some pretty good results. It is a nice spice to add to any Indian dish, especially a curry flavored one, if you haven’t ventured that way, perhaps it is time!
And, if you associate curry with noodles, and you know how I feel about refined noodles (stay away… though my youngest daughter loves them so we let her cheat once and awhile), you might wonder how you could ever enjoy the curry flavor again. Well, it is time for a spiral slicer then. I demonstrated one in our first recipe night about a year ago when we prepared some Thai noodles using zucchini and the spiral slicer to make noodles, and almond butter to make the sauce.
Regardless of what steps you take, I believe you should try to take all of these. Get yourself on the terrain, get yourself some turmeric in the house to use as a spice, and consider yourself an inflamed individual if you fit any of the above 4 criteria. Clicking this link for Terrain will get you a free preferred customer membership for a year as well. – Buy Terrain
Enjoy the power of sour! Be Well and Be Blessed! – Dr. E
Recently a CA couple had their child taken away for not following the rules. What rules? The rules that are made up on the spot by the MD’s and hospital administrator’s when you bring your baby in for concerns over illness.
Perhaps you have heard the story? The child had flu like symptoms, and was admitted into the ICU at the hospital. This might seem like overkill, but the child has a history of a congenital heart defect, so there is some history here, and perhaps the hospital staff is trying to be pro-active. But read this excerpt from the story posted on “Opposing View Website“.
Soon after checking in, a nurse walked into the room and gave Sammy an antibiotic shot. Anna asked the nurse why she had given the baby a shot, but the nurse could not provide a clear response to the concerned mother.
“I asked her, ‘For what is that?’” Nikolayev said. “And she’s like ‘I don’t know.’ And then I said ‘You’re working as a nurse and you don’t he know what you’re giving my baby?’”
Nikolayev spoke with a doctor who confirmed that the baby should not be given antibiotics. The doctor then told Nikolayev that the medical staff needed to perform open-heart surgery on the baby. But Nikolayev was not comfortable with letting the same medical staff that had wrongly given her child antibiotics operate on his heart.
So far, it all makes sense. A mistake is made, and you decide you aren’t eating at this restaurant again. Right? I would think this makes sense for everybody at this point, so lets look further in the story, and see what happens.
The Nikolayev’s rushed Sammy out of the hospital without a proper discharge in order to seek a second medical opinion. They drove across town to Kaiser Medical Center in Sacramento.
At Kaiser Medical Center, the medical staff said there was no need for heart surgery and then proceeded to release the infant Sammy back into the care of his parents. But, police showed up at the hospital before the Nikolayev’s went home. Apparently, medical staff from the first hospital, Sutter Memorial, called the police saying the Nikolayev’s had placed their son’s life in danger by checking him out without a doctor’s approval. The Nikolayev’s were forced to show police a note from a doctor at Kaiser Medical Center that read “I do not have concern for the safety of the child at home with his parents.”
At this point, the police saw the child was ok, saw the note from an MD at Kaiser, and left, telling the family to have a good day. WOW! Can you imagine how you would feel in the moment you knew that the police had come for you under suspicion of poorly caring for your children? Who has the right to question your authority over your children? If in a state of sound health?
Well, the events of this episode were just getting started. Read on:
Two days later, the police stormed into the Nikolayev’s home. The knocked over husband Alex in the driveway. “I was pushed against the building, smacked down,” Alex said. “I said, ‘Am I being placed under arrest?’ He smacked me to the ground and yelled out ‘I think I got the keys to the house!’”
When Anna heard what was happening in the driveway, she quickly set up a video camera in the living room. At least four police offers are seen on the video, barging into the home without a search warrant demanding that the baby be turned over.
“I’m going to grab your baby, and don’t resist, and don’t fight me, okay?” one officer can be heard saying to Anna on the recording.
From what I can tell, these parents followed the hospital administration process right up until they left without discharge. Well guess what, it is my RIGHT if I want to be discharged by your administration, or if I want to leave. And if I don’t want to wait for your slow process of paperwork and bureaucracy, then I surely shouldn’t have to. I am a consumer, and you (hospital) are a business trying to secure my consumption. You are not a policy maker, nor part of the law.
This story enrages me. It absolutely provokes me to a point of fury. I have not vaccinated my children at all, nothing. Nada. And in addition, I haven’t given my kids one drop of medication other than Ansley for her broken leg… three days total. Brooke has had nothing. These are my decisions, and I am protected in those, even though there have been times that a medically educated health official would have thought for sure I was taking my daughters’ health for granted.
I won’t take the time to write the details of those stories now. The reality is that if I was given the opportunity to argue the scientific evidence of my way, vs. theirs, I will win. And I will reference their medical literature along the way. Sadly, if you haven’t invested your life into understanding this, you will lose that argument, the medical model will prevail with their fear based rhetoric. And they can threaten to take your child away as well.
Read the concerns of a state lawmaker in reference to this case (whole story):
A state lawmaker has joined the fight demanding answers to why Child Protective Services took a 5-month-old baby from his parents after they took the child to get a second opinion.
Nikolayev’s family’s story got national and international attention, and now that spotlight has led to increased scrutiny of CPS.
“They’ve committed no crime, why are they not just free to determine what is in the best interest of their child?” Assem. Tim Donnelly, R-Twin Peaks, asked…
…That higher authority is the Department of Health and Human Services, and Donnelly wrote to the department director when even he failed to get answers from CPS.
“No. I’m not getting any answers. I’m getting this run-around that CPS, whatever they do, they’re allowed to operate in secret, and they’re accountable to no one,” Donnelly said.
Donnelly has also called for a state audit of the agency after hearing from several other parents who described similar incidents.
“I think that we clearly have a government agency, CPS, that does do important work, but they are operating in complete secrecy with absolute autonomy, absolute power,” Donnelly said.
I am not a conspiracy theorist. I don’t believe that there is some higher plan of this government, or the CPS division. I believe they are buying into the rhetoric. They think they are making wise decisions. But they fail to realize their place is way over stepped.
Perhaps it is because of recent events like these:
A couple serving probation for the 2009 death of their toddler after they turned to prayer instead of a doctor could face new charges now that another son has died.
Herbert and Catherine Schaible belong to a fundamentalist Christian church that believes in faith healing. They lost their 8-month-old son, Brandon, last week after he suffered from diarrhea and breathing problems for at least a week, and stopped eating. Four years ago, another son died from bacterial pneumonia.
Prosecutors said Tuesday that a decision on charges will be made after they get the results of an autopsy.
Catherine Schaible’s attorney, Mythri Jayaraman, cautioned against a rush to judgment, and said the couple are good parents deeply distraught over the loss of another child.
“There are way more questions than answers at this point. We haven’t seen the autopsy report. We don’t know the cause of death of this child,” Jayaraman told The Associated Press. “What we do know is Mr. and Mrs. Schaible are distraught, they are grieving, they are tremendously sad about the loss of their most recent baby.”
Again, these parents, like the CPS agency, believe in something that they might not fully understand. But I will judge CPS first, because the parents have the right to try to effect positive healing in their child how they want (in my opinion). But perhaps we need to re-read and determine our beliefs.
Ecclesiasticus 38:4 The Lord hath created medicines out of the earth; and he that is wise will not abhor them… (this from one of the books included in the original King James Bible, later removed… interesting, if in fact it was really part of the Bible)
I hate the medical model. But I don’t hate medicine. I believe there are times when they make sense. But understanding when is difficult, really difficult. For many impossible. But there is one simple rule that I believe needs to stand. A parent has a right to make decisions for their child. Now, what about those Philadelphia parents whose SECOND child died? Do they deserve the right to make decisions for their children? Tough question, feel free to post your thoughts on the blog page.
