Fat Part 3

As we plug along on our journey of fat discovery, remember, I hate the idea of low fat.  If we get milk (which we rarely do) I want it to be full fat.  Raw, grass fed, and full fat.  And that, brings me in to today’s topic, which is that there is a lot of value in fat… IF you get the correct source.

In the last article, I had a question posted on our blog, asking why LEAN meat.  The simple answer, is that God said so.

Leviticus 7:23 – “Say to the Israelites: ‘Do not eat any of the fat of cattle, sheep or goats.”

I believe the wisdom in this, is that fat, regardless of what animal it comes from, is a storage site, and can easily store toxins.  This is why we don’t actively pursue the fat, but rather, we know the fat which is in the meat, the marbling as it were, is enough.  But how do you tell if the fat is a healthy food or an unhealthy food?  It all rides on the animals diet.

Just as you are what you eat, so was the cow, fish, chicken, lamb, etc.  before you ate it.  It is what it ate.  Watch the movie “King Corn” available in our lending library, and tell me that you want to eat cattle that are nearly dead for most of their life.   This is the reason why the USDA Prime Dry Aged Beef, is really nothing but dirty garbage.  Sure, I’ll eat the dirty garbage once every couple of months, but I don’t distort the reality of the situation.  That I am eating something that needs to be detoxed from my body (read below).

On the flip-side, I eat grass fed beef five to ten times a week, every single week, and I do so with a scientifically and Biblically sound, “trust” in the health benefits of doing so.  Why can I eat this beef so regularly and trust that I am well?  Because a grass fed cow has these benefits:

  1. The fat is highly omega 3.  The fat in a conventionally raised cow is 20 times as much omega 6 as omega 3.  In addition, because the fat is the major storage site for toxins, these cows who are fed heavily chemically sprayed grain, which is also GMO grain, and they were likely raised on Monsanto’s recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (how dirty do you want to get your cow).  A grass fed cow is in some cases 1:1 Omega 3 to Omega 6 fat.  This is worth the effort all by itself as the major issue with grain fed beef is the level of inflammation created by this animal.
  2. Leaner.  Even in the world of eat more fat, and eat more fat, and oh by the way did I tell you to eat more fat.  We should trust the biblical principle, and the science that supports it, and not go crazy eating animal fat.  Well, a grass fed animal had to walk around to eat.  The grain fed counterpart was forced to NEVER walk around.  Stuck in its stall, eating… all the time.  That poor animal is fat.  Really, really fat.
  3. Cleaner.  Like we said up top, this beef is not chemically sprayed, so it is clean.  Much cleaner that any conventionally raised beef, making it much healthier for you, and easy on your liver.

I started this article with a focus on the milk.  We should touch on this, as the value of pasture dairy (dairy from a grass fed cow), is consistent with the value of the beef from that same cow.  Omega 3 fat is the first benefit, but one of the often missed benefits of a grass fed cow, is the low level of A1 Beta Casein, which is the inflammatory protein.   There are certain breeds of cattle, when fed grass, that produce almost no A1 beta casein.  In some cases, individuals who have sworn off dairy, can suddenly eat cheese, and milk (in moderation), with no issues at all.  Or, someone who is eating this dairy, might avoid the long term inflammatory response that suddenly shows up in so many unsuspecting individuals.

Secondary problems of this beef market, lie in the fact that we have created a grain market entirely based on the needs of a people eating a completely unhealthy food.  The reality, is that we feed chickens the same thing we feed the cattle.  Consider that the US estimates that we eat 71 Million LBS of chicken every day.  That is a WHOLE lot of chemically sprayed, GMO grain that has actually had arsenic added to it.

The issues are significant, and rampant, because we are a government controlled food producer, and those who have received assistance financially, hold onto that assistance, even though it is upside down from all levels of analysis.  We should not be producing corn like it is the only crop on the planet.  Especially when we consider it is GMO, and that the GMO crop is what is fed to our conventional beef.  This situation has impacted the poor in our country more than you might ever stop to realize.

“…because of the subsidization of commodity crops in our country (subsidizing grain production vs. healthy food production like fruits and vegetables), Twinkies are cheaper than carrots and Doritos are cheaper than apples, the poor in our country by necessity are eating the cheapest calories ”   – John Robbins author of “No Happy Cows”

The worst case scenario, is that we have cheap beef and cheap toxic snacks, being fed to our population.  They become the staple products of our country, and then we end up right where we are.  Where the healthcare costs in our country are nearly $3,000 more per person, per year, than the next closest country (which is nearly 40% of our total).  We are wasting our money, our health, and our future generations away.  Its time to wake up and decide to change.  You just missed the grass fed beef co-op with Indian Creek Angus, but it doesn’t mean you cannot jump on it with them on your own.  Tell them HealthSprout sent you , and you would like the best deal you can get.  It is time to make your voting dollars vote the right way, for the sake of you and your family.

Be well and Be blessed!  – Dr. E
