Environmental Working Group – they brought you the dirty dozen and the clean fifteen, and then they brought “Skin Deep” the clean cosmetics database. So much that comes for free, and their current focus is this:
Dear Eric,
Big Ag is trying to push through a massive increase in the nationwide use of a toxic weed killer, and the clock is ticking on our chances to stop them.
As I write, the Environmental Protection Agency is weighing whether to approve Dow Chemical Co.’s new weed killing product, Enlist Duo, a mix of the notorious herbicide 2,4-D and another weed killer, glyphosate, the chemical in Monsanto’s Roundup. Dow wants to have growers spray this herbicide concoction on millions of acres of genetically engineered corn and soybeans that have been designed to withstand 2,4-D.
If the EPA approves Enlist Duo, the use of this toxic herbicide will skyrocket. 2,4-D has been linked to serious risks to the environment and human health, including disrupting hormones and reproductive function, cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
Here’s where you come in: The EPA’s window for public comment closes June 30 – in less than a week – so now is the time to harness the power of activism and fight back. EWG has been on the forefront of this fight, but we need your help today to raise $20,000 by June 30 to stop Big Ag’s assault.
I know you care about protecting your family’s health and our environment. Will you step up today to support EWG’s advocacy efforts so we can mount an all-out campaign to take on Big Ag?
Dow and other chemical goliaths are pumping millions into greasing the wheels of the political system to boost their bottom lines. When it comes to money, they have a big edge on us; as a non-profit organization, we rely on the support of individuals like you to keep up the fight.
EWG knows what it takes to win these battles. We‘ve proven ourselves a formidable opponent to Big Ag’s millions by fighting for GE food labeling laws like the one recently passed in Vermont and against a House bill that would roll back nutritional standards for school lunches. With your full support, we can win this fight, too.
That’s because we have something Big Ag lacks: you. Our strength and resolve must match their millions, and that means we need you to stand up for what’s right today.
Thank you for your quick action.
Sincerely,
Ken Cook

I hope you will join the fight. My concerns are evident, but in addition, I am concerned about the collapse of bee colonies that might be attributed to some newer pesticides on the market. I cannot imagine the negative impact on food supply and cost, should the bee colony collapse worsen from where it is.
