Don’t do what I do… but sleep.

In the past I have written about the importance of sleep.  The necessity of getting a good nights sleep, and what it does for your health.  Personally, I have always found myself to be one who could function on little sleep, though I do not believe that allows me to reach my greatest health potential.  So at 6-7 hours of sleep a night, I am under what research suggests is wise.

Fortunately, I am in a “period” in my life that will come to an end, and I will get more!  I guarantee it.  But for now, I am going to have to sacrifice some, because the needs of the responsibilities that I have, are greater than my time.  There recently was a new published study, shedding light on how important sleep is however, and that is why I am interested.

Over the years I have seen lack of sleep associated with aging, cancer, inflammatory disease, brain dysfunction and heart disease.  Now there is a new study that associates it with obesity.  Researchers performed a brilliant analyses on twins, and on their genetic expressions for weight gain.  What they found out, was this:

  1. In those who slept less than 7 hours per night, genetic expression accounted for 70% of weight gain, weight retention issues.
  2. In those who slept more than 9 hours per night, genetic expression accounted for only 32% of weight gain or retention.

Funny thought: so if you have thin parents, and you need to lose weight, stop sleeping!  Just kidding, that isn’t the conclusion I want you drawing from this.  There are plenty of ways to look at the data, but the simple one that the researches saw this… that sleep influences your genetic expression.

See, the problem with genetic expression controlling your destiny, is that you don’t.  If your genetic expression is running rampant all over you, then you don’t get to set the bar.  Now this gets real tricky… genetic expression is heavily influenced by your lifestyle, but it isn’t your lifestyle.  So an example, if you have a perfect diet, and you influenced your genetic expression by 80%, yet your genetic expression was 100% of your health, then sadly, 20% of your PERFECT diet is LOST!

So ultimately, we want to have more potential for our decisions to rule the day.  And sleep is obviously an answer according to this study.  We need to sleep more!  Me especially.  OK, let’s take this a little further, so we can see how far reaching this genetic expression thing is.

You know I like to discuss Leptin!  In a prior study, it was shown that the excretion of Leptin dropped an average of 18 percent when  sleep deprived.   In addition Ghrelin (a hormone that causes you to feel hunger) increased an average of 28 percent.

If you forget what leptin does, it is the hormone that causes you to stop feeling hungry but to feel satiated, and causes you to burn fat.  It is KEY in weight loss, and is the reason why so many hundreds of thousands of Americans are overweight.   The reality is that leptin is the most  important hormone for ALL weight loss, and it is possibly the most important hormone for all other hormone function.  Female issues?  Leptin.  Menopause?  Leptin.  Thyroid?  Leptin.

So be sure to get all of the awesome direction we provide on Leptin issues, and to watch out for the Suero Challenge coming up in August, lastly to look out for Total Food Makeover coming in September!  We are going to change some lives!

GlaxoSmithKline pleads guilty to criminal fraud charges, pays massive $3 billion in fines Sunday

From Dr. Eric – we like Natural News, it takes some effort to keep up with all of their articles, but this is a great one, and you should subscribe to their newsletters.  Read it, think about it, get motivated to be active!  God Bless you in your pursuit of knowledge and TRUTH.

From Natural News – July 8th

(NaturalNews) U.K.-based pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a corporate “person” in the eyes of the federal government (http://blog.timesunion.com/occupyalbany/corporations-are-people/394/), has pleaded guilty to criminal charges in what even the mainstream media is calling the largest healthcare fraud case in history. And though the company is having to fork over $3 billion in collective fines for its illegal activity, no actual GSK employees or executives are being held personally responsible for their crimes.

A roughly nine-year federal investigation has exposed GSK’s rampant abuse of the law by illegally marketing drugs, forging drug safety data, bribing doctors to promote dangerous and expensive drugs, ripping off Medicare and Medicaid, and lying about the effectiveness and safety of drugs. And all this deception has generated tens of billions of dollars in profits for GSK over the years, while thousands of patients who used the drug products involved have suffered horrific side effects and even death.

But rather than pursue any of the individuals responsible for purveying such crimes, the federal government instead agreed to have GSK simply fork over $1 billion in criminal fines and $2 billion in civil fines. This $3 billion sum is but a fraction of the amount GSK raked in as a result of its illicit behavior, and the company’s employees are now essentially free to continue engaging in such behavior without having to worry about facing any real repercussions.

Big Pharma considers legal settlements to be just another cost of doing business

Though it may sound like a lot of money to most people, $3 billion is not really all that much for a company that generated more than $42 billion in revenues just last year. In fact, according to Reuters, GSK has agreed to pay the $3 billion in fines from company cash reserves that appear to be specifically earmarked for such uses.

This means that GSK, and more than likely all other drug companies, consider criminal activity to be part of their normal company operations, and the legal settlements and fines that may result to be just another cost of doing business. GSK, in this case, was able to bring in tens of billions of dollars using illicit marketing and sales tactics, and only had to pay a small fraction of that revenue to basically pay off the American justice system.

When you really think about it, the legal system actually encourages drug companies to break the law because doing so will generate significantly larger profits in the long run. As long as the drug companies breaking the law are willing to share a piece of the pie with the federal government when investigators come to initiate the shakedown, there are no real legal consequences for the corporate “persons” of the drug industry that continue to do as they please.

Every GSK executive, scientist, salesperson, or employee that engaged in illegal activity should be arrested and tried in court

In a just world, the actual GSK employees that engaged in criminal activity as part of the decades-long scheme would be immediately arrested and tried in court for their crimes. Every corporate executive, laboratory scientist, territory salesman, administrative assistant, and factory worker at GSK that knowingly participated in the campaign of deception should be brought to justice, whether that means seizure of financial assets or jail time.

According to Reuters, such a scenario is not necessarily out of the question in this case, despite the settlement. However, federal prosecutors declined to state whether or not any individual at GSK would be pursued, which suggests that none of them likely will. And if nobody at GSK is held personally responsible for the company’s ill-gotten gains, then GSK will more than likely continue to abuse the corrupt system indefinitely.

“What we’re learning is that money doesn’t deter corporate malfeasance,” said Eliot Spitzer, former attorney general of New York, as quoted by the New York Times. Spitzer filed a lawsuit against GSK back in 2004 over the company’s illegal marketing and misrepresentation of the antidepressant drug Paxil. “The only thing that will work in my view is CEOs and officials being forced to resign and individual culpability being enforced.”

Spinal Hygiene and Bathing in The Forest

What??? Whoever thought they could incorporate spinal hygiene, forest life and personal hygiene all in one post?  Ridiculous I tell you!  Outlandish to say the least.  So lets get to it!

The summer is fun, lots of activities… a little crazy, but still fun.  One thing I do not do a lot of during the summer months, is forest bathing.  The term comes from an article that a patient brought to me to read.  Nice read that brings out the value of spending time in the forest (thus bathing in the positive energy, aura and oxygen of the outdoors).  I do a ton of it compared to most, and surely have gotten to be ONE with a forest.

My daughter Brooke working out at The Garage during a CrossFit Kids Class, this is Spinal Hygiene!

I can recall camping on vacation was really the primary way I lived for about 15 years of my life.  I grew up pitching a tent, then either rushing to sleep so that I wouldn’t hear my brother snore, or strapping the headphones to my ears and falling asleep to some random Brit punk music.  But the days, the days were spent under the canopy, walking on trails, or casting a reel on the edge of a lake that was so amazing, as you lost yourself in the reflection of the trees you began to wonder which way was really up.  The kind of beauty that you can’t help to enjoy, even us a child.

Now, as you know, I spend much of my time out running riding, canoeing, or anything else, out in the woods.  I have my oldest daughter just about ready to trail ride with me, all good.  And this is all part of the forest bathing phenomenon that is getting so many people outside these days.   Actually, I might as well take this time to see who might want to prepare for a three day journey along the Appalachian Trail on November 6th.  We will start on the GA/NC border, and work our way back to Amicolola Falls over those three days.  My original plan was to do it straight through, no breaks, just try to push it into 36 hours.  But I have no takers to go it with me, so if you want to test yourself over three days, let me know!

Let me tie this together with Spinal Hygiene.  Ultimately, your nervous system is the most important piece of your anatomy.  The Brain and Spinal Cord together control everything in your body.  Pretty awesome.  However, these two awesome pieces of magnificence can be altered in their function, by simple pressure.  Pressure that probably wouldn’t happen if we never let a doctor pull a child’s head during birth (do you know why we see 400 kids a week for maintenance care now), or sit at a computer for 8 hours a day, EVERY DAY…. or sit in a chair, rounding our low back, and thrusting our heads forward.   All serious causes of pressure.

I have a VERY strong belief that all people should be doing something for spinal hygiene EVERY SINGLE DAY of their lives.  It is more important than dental hygiene, and way more enjoyable if you do it right.  Many of you are in a place right now, where your spinal hygiene should include 2 separate times a day of traction, and possible one time of wearing head weights.  Do you know that this might just be the difference between you getting correction and not?  Between organs never fully healing the way they are supposed to, and them flourishing with function.  I have had patients who have gotten pregnant, and I would argue that their head weights did it!  I know, seems crazy, and funny too.

Running through a forest is good for spinal hygiene.  Swimming in the ocean is too (this might be a good time to let you know I am finally taking a real vacation in August, I know, you don’t want me to leave when it seems like I just got back to adjusting, but this is for me to really vacation, so far I have just been feigning it while focusing on other ways to keep myself from going crazy.  But my point in including it, I will be at the beach, near a huge canopy of trees (Hilton Head), enjoying sea and shade.  This is God’s place.

If you are not getting outside and moving, stretching your legs under the trees, or getting a good stretch in, or using your homework (whatever it is that myself or Dr. Levi may have prescribed you), then please, please, please… do it.

Enjoy the earth, get out in it, and maintain your spine in the process.  Be well and be blessed! – Dr. E

Chiropractic and Quality of Life

February 23, 2011
Reprint 07-16-2012

There have been some great studies over the years on Chiropractic and Quality of Life. I stumbled across this reference, and thought about the simple approach to health that we take in the chiropractic health model, and how that simple approach is still the absolute most effective.
“A study published in The Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research in August 2004 shows that a healthy spinal column can improve posture, reduce stress and increases range of motion when performing various exercises. People who undergo regular chiropractic treatment sessions may also take better care of themselves by exercising regularly, getting enough sleep and making healthy nutritional choices that also improve the quality of life (Source: ChiropracticResearch.org). Here’s a close look at some of the key benefits of regular chiropractic treatment:
1. Natural way to reduce stress. Chiropractic treatments can help to improve nervous system functioning which in turn helps minimize the effects of stress. When someone is suffering from poor nerve function, stress buildup can be significant enough to trigger migraines, headaches, joint pain and extreme anxiety. Sustained stress on the nervous system leads to hormonal dysregulation, immuno-compromise and secondary diseases such as cancer.

2. Improves posture. A better posture encourages better breathing patterns which helps keep the energy flowing throughout the body. Better posture also minimizes the risk of upper and lower back pain, joint problems and fatigue. In addition, there are numerous studies linking postural degeneration to heart disease, and degenerative conditions of the spinal cord. Together, these effects will improve quality of life.

3. Increased joint flexibility and mobility. Regular chiropractic treatments can improve range of motion and thereby encourage physical activity. This reduces the chances that someone will maintain a sedentary lifestyle, and regular exercise or physical activity can improve quality of life overall.

4. Promotes natural healing. One of the most significant outcomes of chiropractic treatment is that the body can begin to restore itself naturally. An impaired nervous system often leads to injury and damage to the tissues and joints. Any type of spinal misalignment can contribute to the deterioration of the body, so chiropractic adjustments reduce this risk and promote the natural healing process. This means that a patient may not need to resort to prescription drugs and medication just to feel better, thereby improving their quality of life.

5. Reduces blood pressure. Improved nervous system functioning can improve blood and energy flow throughout the body, which in turn can reduce blood pressure. High blood pressure can contribute to a number of health problems and diseases, and may be difficult to control as the patient ages. Regular chiropractic treatments can reduce blood pressure naturally, which means the patient may not need to resort to medication in order to improve their health.
Simple and to the point, this is why chiropractic works”
So as I said in the beginning, the simple approach is what makes sense. And we will continue to teach chiropractic for its life giving qualities, the improvement on healing and immune system capacity.
If you have a child, spouse or parent living nearby who has not been checked, you owe it to yourself and them, to get them through the doors to have their spine checked. It is that important and silent subluxations do not sleep. Hope you enjoyed the reminder of why you come here!

The Summer of Love turns to Christmas!

Many of you know that we do Christmas in July every year.  Not only is it the time that we offer any new patient a chance to be checked for free (we rarely do free, but will offer the $25 special regularly).  We do this so that anyone inside the office can have children checked, and spouses checked without having any reason not too.  But the promotion side for our office is only a small part of why we do Christmas in July.

I personally love the music.  Two weeks of nothing but Christmas Music… what an awesome experience in the middle of the heat!  I have always found Christmas music to be the music that lifts me up the most… I have even used Christmas music to drive me hard through a workout (to the odd stares of people around me).

But the greatest reason to do this, and the best reason for you to be involved, is because it adds prayer time.  We ask that any of you who are praying patients, would take just a moment of pause when you come into the office and see a cutout of a stocking or a present on the wall.  The names on these icons are those that are being invited into our office.  My assumption is that everyone who is invited into the office is invited for a reason.  Whether it be that they need our help, or someone elses help, I assume that for the most part, they make their way onto our wall because they need help.  So that is what I am here for.

So in that moment of pause, if you send a prayer to Heaven for the health of that person; not that they come to know chiropractic, or the healing diet, or CrossFit, or any of those; but simply that they have an improvement in health… then you are helping our cause.  And helping that person.  It is a great opportunity, to see a name and simply share a prayer.

Who gets to end up on the walls of the office over the next three weeks is up to you.  Every time you take a gift to give to someone, you add their name to the wall.  Every time you add their name to the wall, they get prayed for.  Pretty cool.

I have a patient who shared some sad news with me this evening.  Her 19 year old daughter fell four stories this past Sunday night.  She received a phone call that started with “are you sitting down”… not the kind of call you would want to receive.  The next thing she was told, was that their daughter was paralyzed from the waist down.  Fortunately, after some time to heal and reduce inflammation, this is not a lifelong diagnosis, and she is already recovering.  But she has many broken bones.  I can say that in all of my best thoughts and opinions about how the body works, she is fortunate to be alive.  So, this patient wrote her daughters name on a card, simply so we could pray.  She won’t be a patient, she doesn’t live here, she will only be someone whom we consider for our daily prayers.

I know I have patients who don’t believe in prayer, and I would speak to you very specifically: prayer has been proven to improve quality of life.  Their are research studies that have shown the effect of prayer on both the one praying and the one being prayed about.  So whether you choose to believe it is God or not, does not have an impact on the fact that prayer works.  So engage in it, regardless of what you believe!

I enjoy you all so much.  The last few days have been awesome, getting back to adjusting… and I absolutely look forward to Christmas in July!  Be well, and Be blessed!   – Dr. E

What Can I Do For You?

So I am not 100%, but I am close, and I am well enough to adjust anyone and everyone.  So I will!  In the last three months, my business has suffered.  Of course it has, I have been slow to heal, and how do you adjust with a bum shoulder?

So, over the coming few weeks, I want to make sure that I help everyone get back on track, and if there is anything that I can help with, that we focus on that.

My Crazy Family… lots of Faith in this group, lots of understanding of the power that was put in you to heal you… lots of drug free kids.

This is important.  Your spinal health is still the most important aspect of your health.  Your nervous system is it.  I have been in this lifestyle for fifteen years.  I have been up and down every path and around every bend.  I have been amazed at every turn by one thing more than anything else, the importance of corrective chiropractic care in lifetime wellness.

I had a couple patients let me know this week that they were stopping care, and all I thought about was what they would be missing.  Not right now.  At any given moment there is no measurable benefit of chiropractic.  I understand this, and you should too.  But over the course of a few years, a decade, two decades, the value becomes immeasurable.  I have seen it in myself, and in those patients who have been with me through it.

The study that most profoundly impacted me, was the quality of life study published about 8 years ago.  This study showed not only improved quality of life assessments in surveys of people under chiropractic care for 5-7 years minimum (when compared with others in chiropractic for 1 year to five years… this is important.  Do you realize that the honeymoon period when most people would tend to believe that chiropractic is changing their life, is in the first twelve months?  So that if you have a survey showing people in chiropractic for seven years are saying that their quality of life is better because of it, these people must REALLY be getting it!  It isn’t a placebo effect lasting for seven years!!)… ok back to the survey, it also showed that this group had higher levels of thiols in the bloodstream, natural DNA repair hormones that keep you young.  And higher levels of white blood cells.

On the blood cells… how many times have you heard me spout the study to you that showed that those with a misaligned atlas can increase their white blood cell count by 20% in fifteen minutes following an atlas adjustment?  Do you know that white blood cell counts are the number one way to reduce blood born cancers in the body?

So the next time someone asks you why your baby gets adjusted, tell them it is because their head was pulled when they were born, and you want to reduce their long term risk of cancer.  That is the most valuable long term reason to get your kids adjusted.  For this reason alone, I will never not adjust my kids.  Ever.

So, yeah, my passion has not waned, don’t think it has.  This is it.  I have lived and breathed miracles in my office and I think God for that, and for the opportunity to lay hands on someone, and remove subluxation.  Subluxation that is interfering with life and love, and calm, and strength.  You are created to be awesome, but you never will be as awesome as you could be with subluxation.  I have seen its effects in so many people.

So please, rally around this moment, and be sure you are back on track with your adjustments.  It is TOO valuable, and will always outweigh the negative words of an MD.  If you are experiencing needs, lets help your nervous system to lead you to wellness.  Be Well, Be Blessed!  – Dr. E

Prayers and Praise – A Patients Story

This was a recent letter of praise that we received, it is the thing that drives us on.  It might just be why I have continuously been pushing my shoulder to respond fast, so I could get back to it (even when I shouldn’t be).  We have an incredible burden, simply because so many have such a great need for health.

Thanks to Ashley for sharing!

I just wanted to let you know that you have an incredible ministry and I
have already been blessed because of Healthsprout. My son, Samuel, is 3
months old and spent 3 weeks in the NICU and another 2 weeks at home on
oxygen support. He was first diagnosed with “pulmonary hypertension” then
with “lung disease” then with “respiratory distress syndrome” and then we
found out that his lungs were probably just immature. But, God proved to us
that He is in control and He has healed our little boy.

Throughout the process, my husband and I have prayed for “complete healing”.
Therefore, we have never been comfortable with the fact that Samuel was put
on a corticosteroid breathing treatment as a “preventative” treatment. I
have wondered what God might think if He is completely healing Samuel, yet
we do not have complete faith in Him. As I began researching the side
effects of this medication (hyperactivity, suppressed immune system, oral
thrush, rapid heart rate, etc.), I came across a blog where a mom said that
her son came off of the same medication after visiting Healthsprout! I
called Healthsprout and made an appointment for the next day.

My mom and I took Samuel to Healthsprout a couple weeks ago, not knowing
what to expect. As we sat in your waiting room, God’s presence was evident.
We loved the Christian music and the comfortable atmosphere. As we read the
Daily Sprouts in the binders, I felt that God was teaching me something
special. At the bottom of one it said, “Satan’s goal = to cloud your
mind”… I teared up and told my mom that my mind has been clouded. As I
continued to read, I found something that’s said “God’s blessings do not
have side effects”. This is exactly how I felt about the breathing
treatment.

We had a great visit with Dr. Levi, who understood my concerns, and Samuel
slept for 5 hours in his carseat after his adjustment! Since then, we have
weaned Samuel off of the breathing treatment and we are strongly considering
not having any more vaccinations. I have been reminded over and over of a
verse that I read when Samuel was first placed in the NICU from Genesis
50:21… “Fear not, I will nourish you and your little ones”. I didn’t know
that this scripture would continue to impact our family after Samuel was
home. But, the more I read of The Daily Sprout, the more I am convinced that
God will nourish us if we trust Him alone! This means using the things that
He has provided to sustain our bodies and not placing our faith in a drug.

So, this leads me to my prayer requests (finally right?!). We are praying
that taking Samuel off of the corticosteroid was the right decision.
Secondly, we are praying about the vaccinations. And lastly, we want to
continue to visit Healthsprout, but you are an hour an a half away. There is
a Maximum Living practice in Buford (30 min. from us) – Dr. Andrew St.
Bernard. Please let me know if that is a practice that you would recommend.
We truly appreciate your prayers and any direction that you can give us!

Thank you!!

Ashley Cameron

Vaccine Workshop This Wednesday Night

This Wednesday night we will be giving you the scoop on the most controversial of all health issues, vaccinations.  So personal this topic, we have had parents who have chosen not to vaccinate, who have been called a bad parent by both pediatrician and nurse.

We have some great knowledge for you, so that regardless of what you choose, you can do so in confidence.  It is important to get that this is your issue, no matter who you are or what your station and/or position in life.  Child, young adult, new parent, parent with teens, empty nester… trust me when I say, this topic is yours.

With an epidemic of autism happening, and a significant amount of evidence that points towards toxicity as the cause, it is important to know all sources of toxins, and risks and rewards of those.  This Wednesday night we will be hosting the answers to your questions workshop!  Dr. Levi is our resident expert, with more time in studying this topic than just about anyone we have met.  He will shed light on so many of the issues that surround vaccination and vaccination decision.

This Wednesday night, at HealthSprout, at 6:45PM.  Do Not Miss It!

If you want to get a piece of what we are touching on, go to our HOME PAGE and watch the trailer to the movie posted on the site.  We look forward to seeing EVERYONE there and your friends!  This is too important to miss.  And again, it effects everyone.  With vaccines in the production line that could be mandated for all adults, this will effect you.  We thank you for taking it serious.  Be well and be knowledgeable – Dr. E

Philosophical Health

Have you ever stopped to think about the philosophy of your health decisions? I know it is an odd concept for many, but for so many of you I know it is common. But do you realize how odd we are to the rest of the world?

I consider myself to be a bit odd compared to the culture when I make a health decision, because I believe like all decisions, they should come from a philosophical perspective first and foremost, and honestly find it hard to understand how someone with a strong philosophical basis on life wouldn’t apply that to all of life.

What I mean by philosophical, is simply a belief system that utilizes rules, guidelines and boundaries for some part of your life. The definition of philosophy provides one perspective that philosophy is following a philosophers belief.  Its funny, because I have come to realize that based on that definition we are all philosophers.  For example, a patient tells me that they believe they are healthy because they are thin.  If I ask them to give me their philosophical basis, they would usually say, “well, I just think it”.  Meaning that they are trying to rewrite the rules of existence based on their gut.

I don’t mean to jab too much, because the honest truth is that we all do it.  We take little bits of what we have heard and seen, and develop our own beliefs, even if they don’t actually match a widely published/accepted set of beliefs.  So at this point if you are thinking about the direction that I am going with this as it relates to health, you are probably thinking food. But in reality I am talking about all areas of health.  And specifically the one I want to focus on, is stress.

Are you stressed?  Why?  Does it make sense?  When I tell people that they are completely responsible for their own stress, many will fight back and point the finger at someone else.  A spouse, their kids or their boss.  Perhaps the economy.  But the reality is that you are the only one who can deal with you.  Nobody else has a responsibility to make happy.  It is you.

If you lose your job,  don’t stress,  if you lose your house, don’t stress, if you lose your loved ones don’t stress.  Sadness is ok, pain is ok, feeling lost with no hope is not.  And as long as you have a direction and a hope, then there is no place for stress.

I closed six offices over three years in a mostly upside down position with my company, I incurred an incredible amount of personal debt to accomplish that without firing people who needed jobs.  At the same time the IRS came into my life and found some errors that were far enough back that the amount of interest and penalty that was assessed was five times the missed tax amount.  There should have been sleepless nights according to many, but the one thing I do well, is resist stress.

Fighting out of that hole over the last four years has been a wonderful blessing.  Stress will never be an issue again for me.  I learned how to walk in faith, and it was so worth it.  Blessings come from all directions at the oddest times, and the smallest one can be the hugest step towards living stress free.

We have read enough research that places stress as one of the most incredibly important risk factors in heart disease and cancer.  Most of this has been centered around research on epigenetics.  Google that. It is an area of research that is really not more than 20 years old, and has really taken off in the last decade.

Break the name down, and what you get is “upon” (epi) “genetics”. Meaning what controls genes.  Old science thought that the nucleus was the brain of the cell.  This old Thinking was killed by the study of epigenetics, which has revealed that the cell membrane controls the genetic expression of a cell.  The nucleus is more like the gonads.  The membrane comes in contact with tiny protein markers that are altering cell behavior.  These proteins come from our diet, our exercise, and remarkably from thoughts.

Dr. Bruce Lipton’s book, “The Biology of Belief”, gives us the science behind this. It is pretty awesome. You are what you eat, drink, do and THINK.  Awesome!

So in the wake of this knowledge, be strong with your philosophical beliefs that health is yours, and that you are given a path towards what is most important of all of your health pursuits.  No Stress.  Think highly, don’t be stressed, and be blessed! Dr. E

Why Bacon DOES NOT belong on your plate!

FROM MAXIMIZED LIVING: Article
4 Reasons Bacon SHouldn't Be on Your Plate or in Your Sundae

Photo courtesy of istockphoto / thinkstock

The newest edition to the Burger King’s menu is the Bacon Sundae, made with vanilla ice cream, chocolate fudge, caramel, bacon crumbles and a slice of bacon. With 510 calories, 18 grams of fat and 61 grams of sugar, it’s like eating a second Whopper.  Given the abundance of bacon burgers and bacon-wrapped steaks, Americans obviously love bacon despite its association with heart disease and various cancers.

If you’re one of the many who enjoy an occasional slice of bacon, here are four tips for checking labels and avoiding.

Toxic pork.  Maximized Living does not recommend consuming pork products. Ever. The American Institute for Cancer Research claims all processed meats are unhealthy.  Pork contains a high amount of dangerous, unhealthy fats that will store large amounts of toxins.  If you’re a bacon lover, turkey or all-natural beef bacon are healthier alternatives.

Deadly nitrates.  In most pork-based processed meats—bacon, ham, sausage, bologna, hot dogs— nitrates linked to cancer  are usually added as a preservative to give a pinkish color. The danger is that sodium nitrate and nitrite form cancer-causing compounds known as nitrosamines when mixed with stomach acid and other chemicals. Looking for “no added nitrates” on the package is smart and safe. Apply this rule whenever you look through packaged meats.

Sodium Overload.  Curing bacon involves high amounts of sodium.  Sodium increases your risk of high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke.  Eating a lot of cured meat has also been linked to cancer.  Brine-cured bacon is higher in sodium than bacon cured through dry packing. Turkey bacon typically has less salt, but not always. Check the label.

Disease-Causing Fats. The fat and cholesterol content of processed meats is always dangerous.  Processed meats have processed fats that contribute to heart disease, diabetes and cancer.  Choose all-natural turkey or beef bacon products even if they have higher fat content to reduce your risk of chronic disease.  Healthy, unprocessed fats are needed for your brain, nerves, energy levels and overall health.  Always err on the side of all-natural, organic products.

Dr. Eric’s ADDITION – God said to avoid it.  I know he may have erased that through Grace, but just because he took away our need to be under the law doesn’t mean he took away the law.  We don’t murder still, we continue to tithe, and stealing and adultery tend to fall into the “no-no” category still.  So I believe we follow these laws for two reasons.  One, we were told to by God, thus our entire ethical/moral agenda are based on these.  And two, we realize that our lives are better by following these laws.
