Expressing Health

Some of you know that I was OUT this Wednesday afternoon with a cold.  Sick as some say.  Well, as you should know by now, we don’t call it sick when you have symptoms.  Only individuals with good immune systems know how to express symptoms in a way to kill a cold virus.  So we call that expressing health.

In other words, your expression of health is that your body, in a near perfect way identified a virus as it entered your system (and in all cases, it was likely well over a hundred million of that virus that entered your body in order for you to really respond).  But you identified it.  In that identification you knew it was bad, and so immediately you put up an alert.  That alert involved creating a host of antibodies.  These antibodies were produced and disseminated via your mucous membranes, and they flooded your system.

And then what happened?  Well, you hated that your head swelled to basketball size, you couldn’t stand that stuff was dripping down your throat, and then it irritated you to NO end that your chest filled up with garbage for three weeks.  So you decided to get diagnosed, and your doc told you that:

  1. You had a sinus infection (this is the swollen mucous membranes that needed to swell in order to keep you alive… no, its not an infection, it is superior domination of your species over that of the virus.
  2. You have Strep Throat – yeah, strep throat.  First off, be sure the sensitivity of the test is not for minimal strep.  You all have it.  I was part of a group that swabbed 34 throats of 34 healthy chiropractic students exhibiting no symptoms.  We grew and stained for strep and staph, and found all 34 slides times 2 to be positive for staph and strep.  So, no, you have pain because you have life saving antibody rich mucous dripping down your throat.  Irritation hurts.
  3. Bronchitis.  Yeah, that sounds bad.  -itis = inflammation.  Bronchi = main passageways into the lungs.  So you have bronchitis and you think it is awful.  I think it is a normal byproduct of healing, and wellness, and it simply takes time.  Most will get over it in a couple of days without doing anything.  Or you could support your immune system and do it faster and more completely.

Which brings me to the point of expressing health.  You better have health in order to express it.  I want symptoms because I know that my symptoms are part of what makes me well.  So, what to do?  Pursue health with all that you can, and then have a fever (I didn’t get one of these), in order to produce interferon and to combat the replication of viruses.

Make some mucous, and don’t shut it off with a decongestant, let it do what it needs to do.  I am a fan of essential oils, and though there are some that are slated as anti-viral and anti-bacterial, I primarily count on them to cut through the mucous in my nose so I can sleep at night when everything gets clogged up.  They work for that reason better than anything I know.

Vitamin C and D – I put 20,000mg a day into my body these last two days of Vitamin C, and 20,000 units of D.  I took about 12 of the vineyard blend Juice Plus each day, and 6 each of the Fruit and Vegetable.  I drank a Green smoothie and I had three Amasai (80 billion probiotics each at least, though one was about three months old, and tasted like it had over 400 billion if my taste buds know anything).

I feel better this evening than I have in three days.  And that is really all it has been.  I was rough Tuesday AM, but not bad.  Bad Tuesday PM, and awful Wednesday.  Thursday was a rough start to the day, but then things have been pretty good.  I anticipate that this will be gone completely by Sunday.  Not a two week battle.  But I attack the pursuit of immune health with abandon.

I have had my atlas adjusted three times, and each time there is an approximate increase in white blood cells that is enough to impove systemic killing by 20%. (Research)

So.  Be happy you have symptoms.  Be happy you will be free of them.  But trust that you were built with GRAND design.

Choose Joy

I hope you had a great Christmas and new years. A lot has changed for me and my family this year. The biggest change, moving here. But there were some other major changes as well, me going from a full time student to working full time, and for my wife Amanda, the opposite, going from working to being a stay at home mom. When we first moved here, it was initially difficult, we were home sick, missed our friends and family back in New York, but we adjusted quickly. We were very busy with unpacking, getting into new routines, learning the area, etc, which all helped with the home sickness.

This Christmas break we went back for the first time since the move. I had some mixed feelings about the trip. I was obviously excited to go but at the same time was anxious about reminding myself of everything we left behind. Would it cause me to question if the move was the right thing for our family? It would be very easy to get somewhat depressed when I visited the newly built ice arena in my hometown, something I’d been waiting for my whole life, or when my youngest got to ride the tractor with his grandpa (something he had been talking about for weeks leading up to the trip), or just being able to spend time with my and Amanda’s parents, knowing we couldn’t do those things here in Georgia.

Knowing these thoughts or feelings might creep in while we were on this trip, I knew I had to make sure I was thankful for our place in life, and I knew I would have to choose joy. It is really a choice, from within, not something that can be achieved from outside influences. Every day we have a choice to dwell on the negative things in our life and be upset and unhappy, or we can look at what we do have to be thankful for, and choose joy. My family and I have a lot to be thankful for here in Georgia, a secure job, a great church, great schools, a home, new friends, etc. We just have to make the choice to be thankful for what we do have and not focus on what we don’t.

RESOLUTE

Every year I write a Daily Sprout regarding the amazing opportunity that presents itself  every New Year.  I know, I know… many of you are SICK of the idea of making resolutions on New Year’s.  “If it is that important, why wait til the New Year, just do it.”  or  “why make a decision to stop doing something for a month, if you are going to do it, do it right, why tie it to a new year”.  And I fully understand this sentiment.

Waiting til the New Year might seem a bit foolish if it is truly pressing, or it might seem a bit naive… to think that just because a year has ticked by, you will actually make a lasting change.  And it can most definitely seem rushed.  “The New Year is here… therefore I had to think of something to change in my life”.  Not very well planned.

BUT, I truly believe, that for those of us who stop long enough.  Pause, long enough to put our heart to the test.  Those of us who would stand in this moment and feel a burning presence in our spirit, would find that fulfilling something that just has to change.  And… put this to the test please… would find RENEWAL in this time of year, that allows us to make an exaggerated step in the right direction that will alter the path of our lives.

Andy Stanley preached on it today, and it made me think “God positioned me, timed this right, so that I would write this Daily Sprout today.  Not last week like I had planned, but today, after hearing this message.  His quote from above… it references the potential of this moment… like saying – do you really think that this time of RENEWAL is designed to be wasted on weight loss and financial gain alone?  Really?  Is that all you have to offer to the world, to your family and to yourself?

Of course for me, in the health world, I think that your health is the pivotal point that allows more life change to happen.  I often find people who are highly successful, highly committed people doing very well in their financial life, doing very well in their home life, but sucking horribly at health.  Or, those who have the career and health rocking… just killing it… but totally absent of a home life, or relationships that mean anything.  I posted this on several emails that were sent to two of my gyms –

Many of you set goals for the last 90 days of 2014.  Many of you have achieved those, for many of you it is the start of a new year with the same goals.  This is your time to shine.  You are accomplished in life, in your career, family… so why let this slip.  Be strong in all areas, allow no weakness into your character that you do not approve.  Start today.

My commitments are greater than my feelings at this moment.  I have recently told people that my Straight 60 is the best way to take control of your diet.  It is NOT a short cut, which I see way too many of these days.  30 day fasts offered up by sub-par nutrition companies.  Ingredients are less than fantastic, and all their claims are based on testimonials.

Have I ever told you that if you take a sick person and give them fruit juice, it will make them more well than they are?  But if you take one of my healthier patients and give them fruit juice, the sugar content will make them sick.  Do you see why the testimonial needs to be measured against an absolute, not just the relative.  Now mind you, if that step to the juice was necessary to get commitment, by all means make the step!

Which is the point of making a commitment.  When it comes to the Straight 60, it is HARD on paper.  But it is easy in practice given ONE thing.  Commitment.  If you just haphazardly start this thing, then you will fail.  Every time you will fail.  This last group of 60 people that we had, we had about 40 who did not cheat ONCE.  We had 45 lbs lost, 40 lbs, 35 lbs, 30 lbs, and about two dozen 20 lbs lost.

The reason why success comes, is because we make a HUGE deal over the commitment.  I told one participant, “You need to light candles in a circle, now avoid the pentagram mind you… that would be weird.  But light candles, read from the Bible, say prayers, then invite every single person you have ever known to witness you make the decision to be committed.  To commit to being renewed in your mind, and to see this good and perfect plan for health in your life.  Then… then… invest time in your mission.  And be committed to the POWER that comes from killing the strongest addiction (sugar) that everyone faces, and using that power to become more than you think you are.”

Powerful RESOLUTE decisions make for powerful life change.

I have been worn out this last half of 2014.  So much so that I pulled away from a lot of my normal fall activities.  I slowed down many of my usual habits, and I have slept more.  Good thing.  I am happy for that commitment.  But I found myself wasting away more time here and there.  Not much at one time, but a game on the phone, more facebook perusing, random web site reading… stuff that I tend to think has very little room in life.  So.  Here I am, taking my own advice, and standing RESOLUTE before the world, that I will take that down time, down time that I need from the work life that surrounds me, and I will use that time for my wife and family and to write.  Writing nutrition and health is work, but I will write anything, and whatever comes will come.

This is my point of contention and this point will die.

Christmas

The absolute best time of year. Period. I absolutely love Christmas for many reasons. One being my wife’s birthday. Yep, for those who didn’t know, she was born on Christmas Day… Eh hem… Some odd number of years ago. Well, actually an even number.

One of my goals is to make her birthday amazing each year. Some years I succeed very well, others not so much. But the special nature of a Christmas birthday coupled with the celebration of the birth of love… Awesome!

Christ came down to a dark world. Sometimes we fail to see it for what it was, but if we look at historical references and biblical truths, we can see a world full of hate and suffering. Christ was a light in the midst of this horror, and you cannot argue what he has done for the world.  Christian or otherwise, His legacy of Love lives, for 2000 years it has lived.  What a joy to be able to celebrate that.

So.  Given the most amazing story of love in all of history, of all time… it would seem that this time of year would be the easiest, best, most simple and relaxed time.  Celebrating love.  Nothing else, just pure love.  How else would we want to celebrate the Christmas season?

Yet, here I find myself finally completing this post, which began on Friday, then followed in an absolute flurry of activity for the weekend.  Painful activity.  We served at the Goshen Valley Boys Ranch in Waleska on Saturday morning.  And I must honestly say it was probably the most enjoyable three hours of my weekend, by far.  Everything else was stress and pain.  My family upset with me because I seemingly have a short fuse right now.  (notice the “seemingly”… you know, how you don’t see your own fault even when everybody else does)  I blame this on my tooth, which I had a root canal on last Tuesday, which went from a pain free tooth, to a PAIN RICH tooth in the last five days.  Perhaps a problem perhaps not… we’ll give it a few more days, but it does remind me of how much I hate the lack of certainty in healthcare (chiropractic not excluded).  The body is unique.  But, this is not my point.

My point is that this season is designed to be a celebration of the most amazing gifts.  Become a scholar… I’m not, but in the study of history, it is plain to see that this world was not a world of love before the birth of Christ.  I honestly do not believe that families could exist with any level of harmony that we exist today.  And we think our lives are horribly distraught for the most part… and that is with nobody hunting our daughters, or stealing our sons for war.  How could it be so bad today without those situations?  We might actually have it made… thanks to Christ.

So.  Stop in this moment, and regardless of your belief.  Be thankful for those whom you love, be thankful for those who sit across from you who you might not even know.  Get right with the world around you so that you can be right with the God above you.  I am going to take my tooth pain in stride with the knowledge that it is fleeting, even if it lasts a month… that is nothing in the scheme of life.  My family deserves so much more this time of year.  And so do you… and so does yours.

From my experience most people see chiropractic as simply a way to treat back pain, which there are a lot of chiropractors out there that base their practice on just treating back pain, which isn’t a bad thing since, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NIH), nearly everyone will experience back pain that will interfere with their work. In the US we spend about $50 billion on low back pain in a year and it is the most common ailment to cause people to miss work and is the 2nd most common neurological condition here in the States (headache being number 1). So low back pain is a big deal, and chiropractic has been shown to be the best option for a quick recovery. We obviously know there is more to chiropractic than simply relieving back pain, a much more important aspect, the function of your nervous system, the ability for your brain to give life to the rest of your body. This is what sets us apart from most chiropractors and why we have so many miracle stories coming from our office. The problem is that most people don’t know this.

Some of you came here as a last resort, after the medical world had nothing to offer, no answer for you. For others you don’t have that story, and you’re here to prevent that situation down the road. Which ever reason you find yourself here, think about how you got here, for most of you it was a friend or family member that sent you through our door. Now think about how you feel about them sending you here, I’d bet most of you are pretty thankful they did. Like I mentioned above, you are our greatest asset to spread chiropractic and change the way the world views healthcare. Water Fluoridation

Most people are aware of the fact that there is fluoride added to our water supply. I would guess most people don’t think much of it, and view it as just one of those things that is there and we just go along with it. I was reading through this article “50 Reasons to Oppose Fluoridation” and it makes you wonder why we still continue this practice.

I’ll summarize some of the article. In my opinion the two graphs above are reason enough to not fluoridate our water. They quite obviously show water fluoridation doesn’t seem to have any effect on our dental health. It’s similar to why we don’t vaccinate, it’s not out of a fear of what can potentially happen if we do, but because we don’t trust that they actually provide, or even improve immunity. Why take any risk, if the reward isn’t evident? These graphs show me that there is no reward to drinking fluoridated water.

Obviously there are other reasons, according to this article there are 50. Another argument against fluoride in the water is that its “bad medical practice.” Fluoride is added to the water as a medicine for promoting dental health. Every other medical treatment requires informed consent before it can be administered; therefore forcing it on the population is unethical. Also, the dose cannot be controlled as it is with any other medication. There is major concern for infants that drink formula that is mixed with fluorinated water. Mothers milk contains only trace amounts of fluoride when compared to tap water which can contain as much as 300 times the fluoride.

Why do we worry about fluoride in our body? “Fluoride is not an essential nutrient. No disease, not even tooth decay, is caused by a fluoride deficiency.” Fluoride will accumulate in the body, primarily in the bones and pineal gland. It has been shown to interfere with brain function and can alter behavior “in a manner consistent a neurotoxic agent.” It can also effect the thyroid gland and cause arthritic symptoms and the list goes on.

So what can we do? The first thing you should be doing is to stop drinking fluoridated water. Certain water filters can remove most of the fluoride. Reverse osmosis and deionizers should remove a good portion of the fluoride from tap water. Or you can simple buy spring water, which typically will only have trace amounts of fluoride. Don’t swallow fluoride toothpaste. It is wise to use non-fluoride toothpaste, especially with children because they are more likely to swallow it.  Other recommendations include avoiding fluoride treatments at the dentist; eat fresh food, not processed (always a good idea); buy organic grape juice and wine (a common pesticide used in many vineyards called cryolite contains fluoride); reduce black tea consumption; avoid non-stick pans; beware of fluoridated medications such as Cipro; avoid mechanically deboned chicken; and avoid fluoridated salt.

Mumps Outbreak in the NHL

The recent outbreak of mumps has emerged as one of the most bizarre yet compelling storylines of the 2014-15 NHL season.

Multiple teams have been affected, several players have been sidelined, and meanwhile, we are all left scratching our heads about what exactly it all means.

Unless you were permanently scarred from that fateful visit to the doctor’s office as a child and have purged the memory entirely, you might recall the term “mumps” from your mumps-measles-rubella vaccination, also known as the MMR shot.

Mumps is a vaccine-preventable disease defined by symptoms such as fever, headaches, muscle pain, fatigue and swollen glands. It is a droplet respiratory disease spread person-to-person and generally from close, prolonged contact.

“We’ve had probably about five people impacted around our team out of about 50 people, so that’s about one in 10, and we figured everybody was exposed to it,” Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher told ESPN The Magazine’s Craig Custance at this week’s board of governor’s meetings in Boca Raton, Florida. “Ten percent of our team population contracted it. As far as I know, everybody received the immunization when they were young. We were all immunized again a few weeks ago. It’s been a tough process to go through. We’ve tried to take every precaution possible. It’s been a very difficult thing to get on top of, [but] I think we’ve done the best we can. We seem to have one player get it, a week off, and another player get it. It’s been frustrating that way.”

And there it is.  My argument has been the same since I first told anybody “We will not vaccinate our children”.  That argument, simply that immunization does not provide immunity.  Therefore I reject the term immunization, and suggest using only vaccination.  As the truth is that there is no guarantee of immunity.  As a matter of fact, it is only a smidge of resistance that is given in my best estimation.

So why have we seen such low incidence of these diseases if not for vaccine imparted immunity?  If you have done your research, then you have already seen the graphs that demonstrate the decline in disease prevalence, well before the advent of vaccines.  The reality, is that immunity was being developed, innately, well before man ever developed a vaccine.

All Disease

So how?  Why?  I like this graph above because I believe in creation, and with that belief, it would make sense to me that there will always be another disease.  Ebola is a great example. and there will always be a natural response to that disease, just like the graph above.  I imagine leprosy could be on this graph as well.

Oh yea of little faith.  If you don’t have a belief in God, and creation, then have a belief in the statistical analysis of the graph.  And tell me that any of those vaccines above can claim victory.  HA!  The victory was won well before ANY of the vaccines, not just the ones on this graph.  All others look similar.  Polio might have the best graph in favor of vaccine effort, but even that one is much like the ones above.  Immunity came before.

Supposed vaccine experts speak of herd immunity.  The “chink” in the armor of vaccines, as they would say that the key to immunity, is keeping a WHOLE population vaccinated, so that there is no room for a viral attack.  My personal belief, is that this is the grasping for straws, that needs to come from a sold out theory with holes in it.

If I may, the reality of immunity, is immunity.  Some people have it, others do not.  Over time, living in line with health, and living in line with immune development, will provide greater opportunity for immunity.  If the herd has been vaccinated, it might assist in many people’s immunity, but it will weaken others.  Creating a gap in immunity because of the weakening of an immune system.  Which is why there have been outbreaks in these diseases since the beginning of the vaccine program, and it is the reason why these outbreaks are becoming more significant now.

We have chosen to pursue methods of false immunity which bypass our immune system development, leaving us weaker than ever before.  Couple that with the complete avoidance of “dirt”, the overuse of antibiotics, the relentless desire to use hand sanitizers, and we are left with a WEAK humanity.

Take a moment to pay attention to the health of the world around you.  Look for the positives and the negatives.  We are seeing some positive improvements in longevity, but we are seeing too many negative impacts on quality of life.  Learn from our mistakes and take away the positives.

Off the Straight 60

I’ve been off the straight 60 for a few weeks now. Thanksgiving has come and gone. During this time I have not kept the diet, nor have I tried the graduation rules. I have been watching my weight carefully though. So I’ve watched it slowly creep up a bit. Don’t worry, not  much, and I know I will recover it. So what’s my plan from here?

I told you before, my plan was to not gain weight through the holidays. So that is still my plan, but since I’ve gained a bit back I need to alter my approach. I try to make sure I’m learning from all of this, success I’ve had along with the failures. I’ve learned, as Dr. Eric taught, that carbohydrate causes STRONG cravings for more carbohydrate. Allowing it back into my diet definitely makes it more difficult to keep it at low levels. The other thing I’ve noticed lately is that I don’t feel as good. Remember how you feel is not a good measure of your overall health, however I do believe it is a good indicator as to how your body is responding to your diet. I’ve felt more sluggish throughout the days that I’ve had carbohydrate. I’ve also felt like the Crossfit workouts are harder and I’m more sore, as if I just started Crossfit all over. I contribute this to the inflammation that I know my diet has caused. So its not fun feeling this way, and honestly those foods aren’t worth it.

The good news is that I know the solution and I know I can follow through with it. So my plan, is to get myself back on the diet for now. I’ll be travelling back to Lockport, NY for Christmas and I know I’ll be having plenty of food I shouldn’t. So I can be good for the next few weeks. I haven’t decided on my plan for that short time after Christmas before the next Straight 60 starting January 19. I know, and I’m looking forward to it, that I’m going to be committed to following the rules strictly! It will not be a repeat of the 2nd time through. I still have plenty of weight to lose, and health to gain.

It goes well beyond losing weight (that is just one of my primary goals), so don’t think that if you are at a healthy weight that you won’t benefit from it. The truth is everyone NEEDS to know this. I’m looking forward to doing it again and seeing some new and familiar faces in January!

Flu Shot Failure

CDC Says Flu Shot is Ineffective!

We have shown you year after year how the real experts have slammed the flu vaccine – such as written in this article here – Johns Hopkins Scientist Slams Flu Vaccine; yet this year the vaccine is even more ineffective than ever.  Our recommendation is that you NEVER get a flu shot.  The ultimate effect on your immune system is bad, simply because the ingredients have deleterious long-term effects on the immune system.

Why?  Because  –

There has never been a satisfying study providing statisitical analysis of antibodies developed to fight off influenza following a flu shot, and the CD has ALWAYS inflated the deaths to influenza that they share in their PR campaign when compared to their VERY OWN numbers published on their web site.  STOP!!

What??

Yes – they publish on their mortality tables, an average of 40,000 deaths per year from Influenza and Pneumonia.  In the table below, there are 53,826 deaths from the combined.  This is scary stuff, I don’t want to die from influenza, and that seems like a lot of people.  Well, their very own table, shows that the reality is that only 1,532 people died from influenza, mostly highly compromised individuals of significant age.  So first off… WHY are you running around so scared?  Because you think you’ll die?

The policies of this country are dictated to us because… BECAUSE of ONE thing… MONEY.  Those who promote, have jobs that are driven by, that become promoted via, the financial gains of their industry.  CDC is no different that private pharmaceutical when it comes to this.  Actually, the CDC is simply the development, or the proving grounds, for many to jump into larger opportunity in the private sector.  You are being mislead.

Flu Deaths

 

This excerpt from www.lung.org helps differentiate influenza and pneumonia further demonstrating that it normally comes from a bacterium, not from influenza:

Pneumonia can have over 30 different causes which include various chemicals,
bacteria, viruses, mycoplasmas (I)
and other infectious agents such as pneumocystis
(fungi). Certain diseases, such as tuberculosis, also can cause pneumonia.
Pneumonia also can be caused by the inhalation of food, liquid, gases or
dust. The most common cause of community-acquired (compared to hospital acquired)
pneumonia is the pneumococcus bacterium; infection by this bacterium
is known as pneumococcal disease. (2)
The pneumococcal bacterium also
causes meningitis, bacteremia, otitis media and sinusitis.

I can only hope you see the reality of this lie.  If the CDC will lie to you, and if the vaccine manufacturers will lie to you, to use fear to drive you to this choice… how can you trust them at all?

Well, back to the current topic in today’s media, which is the ineffectiveness of the flu vaccine.  I trust the science that tells me the flu accine is only about 1% effective in its best year.  But now, when the manufacturers, and the promoters are saying it is only 50% effective against the viral strain that has tested positive 91% of the time this year (Influenza A this year)… then the reality is that it is 0% effective.

Don’t put yourself through the damage of those listed ingredients for a 0% chance of help.  Where proven methods of building your immune system should be your goal.  These are the ones that SCIENCE has proven:

  1. Increased consumption of greens and berries (especially those with red, blue or purple color).  Do not consume too much of the juice (none if we are talking about commercial juices), but rather the whole food, or if juiced then carbohydrate removed, you would have an effective product like this one – IMMUNE BOOST
  2. Vitamin D – it assists in immune modulation, the simple answer to why influenza ramps in the winter, is because you become weak.  Less sunshine is one of those reasons.

  4. So you have some choices.  Ignore the warnings, trust that culture has it right (really?  do you somehow think we are winning the fight against heart disease, cancer, allergies, arthritis, fibromyalgia, autism, Alzheimer’s, and more??? ), and just go about your business.  OR, stand up for truth, be inspired and inspire others to change the mess.
