Mercola on board with my Pork position…

Most of you know I don’t eat Pork.  I choose not to because I simply believe that if God said not to, then it must have been for good reason.  I tend to seem legalistic to people when they look at my choices to follow certain areas of God’s Law.  I am not legalistic, I don’t believe you have to “earn Grace”.  I just want to be honoring.  It is tough to follow the basic laws, don’t lie, steal, covet… because our minds wander and are quick to respond.  So if I get to choose not to eat Pork, well, I find that much easier to follow.

When I was first deciding to go this route, it was a combination of education that led me to the decision, then I brought my wife along, and now my kids.  It was 11 years ago that I started HealthSprout, and shortly after, Rex Russell came to First Baptist Woodstock in support of his book, What The Bible Says About Healthy Living.  I got the book, and taught a four week review of the book at what was Jehova Java in downtown Woodstock.  It was the first time I saw scientific data backing up the idea not to eat pork, shellfish, etc.  And it was very convicting to me.

I immediately felt sick at the though of eating anything from a pig.  So I gave it up.  But… I waffled.  It wasn’t long that I began to have desires for ham, or bacon.  So about a year and a half later, I decided ham for Easter was ok.  It was easy to fall back in at this point, because I did not have a strong commitment to the WHY I should not eat it, it really just felt like I shouldn’t.  Then I re-committed after digging in a bit more, this was the first time we taught Body By God, and I knew without a doubt that Leviticus 11:7 was written as TIMELESS TRUTH, not some random law for the nation of Israel.

Quick aside – for most of you who have Christian belief, and for those of you who don’t, you still believe that your life would be better if you did not steal, lie, murder, commit adultery, covet others things, etc.  In other words, there is a universal belief that following God’s law blesses your life… that it is timeless truth.

Leviticus 11:7 -  And the pig, because it parts the hoof and is cloven-footed but does not chew the cud, is unclean to you.

Unclean.  So Dr. Mercola wrote an article on this, which I think was the first time I saw him directly support a Biblical statement (I mention this because he supports “krill” oil as the best fish oil, I do not because I do not eat unclean animals of the sea either… so i prefer a fish oil of a fish who eats krill).  Dr. Mercola touches on a reason that I have never reported on, which is why I enjoyed this article, and wanted to share it now:

Pork consumption has a strong epidemiological association with cirrhosis of the liver — in fact, it may be more strongly associated with cirrhosis than alcohol (although some have questioned the studies that indicate this, and point out that countries with high pork consumption tend to have low obesity rates.)

Too many polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs) contribute to chronic inflammation, which causes all sorts of problems over the long-term. Inflammation is at the source of just about every chronic disease we see today.

As I have been pushing and promoting the anti-inflammatory lifestyle, this is just one more contributing factor.  Why would pork have such an impact on the liver?  Because it is such a dirty animal.  The Liver is your detoxification plant.  The thing that is working to clean you up.  A pig is so dirty, you cannot put it into context really.  The animal can eat anything, and the way that it deals with toxins is different than ourselves.  They have a large liver, that is able to process much of their toxic load, but they also process more directly to fat stores than most animals.

There are few animals on the planet that can survive the kind of toxicity that a pig can.  Studies have shown that they process venom from snakes faster than other animals their size, they can eat infectious diseases without becoming infected, yet they can become “vectors” meaning they can share the disease.  Ultimately… unclean.

My recommendation, get off of it, and stay off of it.  Be sure to click the link above to Mercola’s article, it is chocked full of  useful data.

Thanks for caring, be well!  – Dr. E

Detox – Just another Buzz Word?

In the last few years the word Detox has been popping up all over the place.  It is truly a buzz word of the current culture’s desire to try to rectify the problems we have created of toxin rich living.    Sadly, most people don’t have an understanding of what it takes to detoxify.

In most cases, it is just a buzz word, as products are created that are designed to increase the amount of colon movement (if you are sitting on the toilet, you must be getting clean), and others are designed to keep you sweating or feeling like you are  burning up your toxic load.  Though there are benefits to increasing metabolic rate, and obvious benefits to increased colon function, this is not the true focus of detoxification.

BUT, before I get any further into detox, I want to drive home a point about clean living.  That is one of the first keys, if detox is going to have a significant effect on your life, you need to first start cleaning up your living.  If the goal is simply to make up for poor living with detoxification, well… it is better than never detoxifying, but it isn’t building a healthier life.  Detoxification, if done right, builds a much healthier body, and life.

This month is Detox Month at HealthSprout!  We have the Monday March 19th workshop at Town View Baptist Church along side of Exodus Healthcare and Dr. David Jockers.  This is our detoxify your Home and Body Workshop, and will be serving detoxifying shakes and de-inflamming lemonade.

Following that workshop, we will be accepting the Toxic Body hair analysis tests for the remainder of the month, and will be reviewing those results with you.  I will be posting a webinar as well as hosting a workshop at the end of the month to go over those results.  And lastly – we will be introducing the Suero-viv detoxification challenge.  This will give you the chance to get a huge boost in your detoxification potential as well as improve overall energy. (for those reading this in office, these are active links you can follow from our web site)

So all month we will be promoting the idea of clean living.  Look for Daily Sprout’s that focus on making clean living choices.

OK, now we can get back to where I left off above.  Detoxification is about getting yourself clean from the cellular level out.  It is about giving yourself an opportunity to reduce toxins in the extra-cellular space, and to strip toxins from the nervous system (these are usually toxic metals).  The ability to accomplish these tasks are based primarily on the presence and strength of your detoxifying enzymes in your liver.  Keep them high through your diet, and supporting creation of these enzymes through appropriate supplementation.

BUT – at times, you should step it up beyond your diet and go after a hard core detox!  I hope you’ll join us a week from Monday to get the best detox education we can offer!  Thanks, and be blessed! – Dr. E

People Who Live to 100

By Intern – Katrina Richards

Have you ever heard of The Blue Zones?  Well, they are places in the world where people live longer and healthier than anywhere else on earth.  Several of these blue zones exist, and in each of these places people living to 90 or even 100 years of age is common!  And they aren’t just living long- they are living healthy, without medication or disability- That’s incredible!!!

You may be wondering, well what is the secret to their longevity and health?  Can you guess what it is?  The secret is LIFESTYLE– these people live an existence that includes a healthy diet, daily exercise, and a low stress life that incorporates family, purpose, religion and meaning.  You can learn further details of their entire lifestyle in the book titled, “The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer From the People Who’ve Lived the Longest by Dan Buettner,” however, I would like to focus on one aspect in today’s daily sprout.

In his above referenced book, Dan Buettner discusses a principle to MOVE NATURALLY.  Dan is a National Geographic explorer who has traveled the globe to uncover the best strategies for longevity, specifically in pockets in the globe where centenarians are consistently found.

Not one centenarian in the study has a “gym’ membership yet every one of these 100 year old plus people would put most of us to shame with the amount of daily exercise they get.  One 100+ year old woman from Loma Linda, CA walks 1 mile each morning in her senior apartment center (up and down hallways), has breakfast, then bikes 8 miles and then lifts weight.  Male centenarians from Sardinia, Italy, work most of their lives as Shepherds, a profession that involves miles of hiking each day.  Okinawans garden for hours each day.  And the male centenarian studied in Costa Rica was chopping wood for several hours before his interview began.

The bottom line– you’ve got to move to live.  When our grandparents tell us that they had to walk 3 miles to school in the snow each day, they were telling the truth!  If we were able to go back in time about 100 years and show those people our current culture, I think they would laugh and be baffled that we actually have to walk/run on a treadmill to get exercise.  Many of us complain about having to walk 1/8 of a mile in a mall parking lot if the parking spot was too far from the entrance.

Over FIFTY PERCENT of ALL cancers could be completely prevented by exercising 30 minutes every day- And yet we still don’t do it.  So, you MUST get moving.  Here are some suggestions:

–  Checkout the CrossFit workouts at Dr Eric’s gym, The Garage– There’s a FREE intro class, so why not?  I went and I loved it!  I will definitely be looking for a CrossFit gym when I move to VA Beach.

–  Actually GO to the gym you have a membership to!

–  Use the exercise equipment you purchased that is currently acting as a clothes hanger.

–  WALK, WALK, WALK- It’s free.  It’s easy on the joints.  It’s great for your mind.  You can enjoy nature…I could go on, but you get my point J

–  Make your life harder- Take the stairs.  Park in the farthest parking spot.  Throw away the TV remote or better yet, go on a TV fast and use that extra time to simply move more- if you can’t cut tv out completely, make it a rule that there is NO sitting during commercials! Stretch in the shower or bathroom.  Hold your abdomen in at every red light.  Stand on one foot while blow drying your hair or brushing your teeth to tighten your core muscles.

–  Give your children toys that encourage physical activity such as balls, kites, and jump ropes and spend quality time with them to enjoy the toys.

–  Simply make movement more fun: turn on a great CD or plug in the Wii and dance for 15 minutes; jump on your trampoline with your kids/nieces/nephews; swim in your pool; follow your grandchild around wherever he/she goes for 20 minutes.

–  Enlist a friend- working out with a friend is fun and they hold you accountable!

Lastly, be sure to celebrate your successes.  Write them down!  What I’m talking about is something you can do now that you couldn’t have done before.  Maybe it’s that you can do 30 minutes of solid cardio and feel tired but good at the end.  Maybe now you can walk up the stairs with a laundry basket and not feel winded at the top!  Anything that you can do now as a result of your new exercise habits should be documented. It is so important to fully acknowledge those feats.  There will be times when you fall of the wagon, having your achievements documented can renew your purpose.  Give yourself the chance to have that at your disposal so you can fully reflect on what you have accomplished!

For those of you who are already doing all of this, good for you- keep moving towards your 100th year of quality life!  Dr Eric, myself, and everyone at Healthsprout will be cheering for you every step of the way- you can do it-Happy 100th birthday in advance 🙂  ,  Here’s a link to watch to get you moving NOW!

Every Excuse is a choice to fail – Don’t fall into that trap!

Abilify?!?!

ABILIFY? ALMOST SOUNDS LIKE ABILITY, WHICH IS AN OXYMORON.

So I was watching some TV the other night while folding and hanging clothes, and a commercial came on for Abilify.  I always perk my ears up for the drug commercials, as they provide great material to talk about in the office, and to write about if worthy.  I actually had to stop and make sure my wife hadn’t changed the channel to Saturday Night Live re-runs, as it sounded like this commercial must be a skit.  It wasn’t.

This is the list of what I heard…

Now you can call me crazy, but I will surely call you a risk taker if you would choose to use abilify after that commercial.  ”Oh, but Dr. Eric, you just don’t know how bad it was for me before abilify”.  To which I would have to say, you need to get into a support group, you need to surround yourself with people who want you to do better and who are willing to sacrifice for you.  And guess what, these people exist.  My office and my gym are full of them.

Seriously, I have never seen such a committed group to other people’s well being as the members at my gym.  No, it isn’t a “Christian CrossFit”, though there are many Christians in it, but Christian or not, people who are focused on their wellness in a CrossFit gym, tend to be focused on everyone else’s wellness too.  It is pretty crazy how hard they will work to help those around them get it.  And when I say get it, I mean get all sides of it.  My office, similar boat… once people are on board with life change, they want everyone to be on board with life change.

So if you don’t want to watch the commercial, let me give you the risks associated with this “anti-depressant add on”.  Yep, this drug is considered an add on to the antidepressant.  Basically saying, if you can’t feel less depressed from an anti-depressant, lets go ahead and add dosage, vs. rest on the idea that perhaps we cannot medicate everything away.

  • call your doc if you have increased thoughts of suicide
  • elderly patients have an increased risk of death or stroke (which means younger patients will likely suffer damage to arterial walls as well)
  • high fever, stiff muscles, confusion = a life threatening condition might be present
  • high blood sugar can result, and in extreme cases can lead to coma or death
  • white blood cell decreases that can be serious (lead to death due to infection)
  • seizures

So why struggle with depression when you could have all of this?

Abilify, Aripiprazole is designed to treat schizophrenia, but depression is commonly lumped in as a normal use, as well as to treat autism.  Problem is that most people who use it to treat disease, are not truly diseased, but suffer from acute episodes of depression from an event in life.  I would suggest that you actually let yourself feel your depression for an acute phase, as it will allow you to adapt and grow.  This is God’s method, otherwise anti-depressants would grow on trees. (I understand again, that many of you will be slightly offended by this, and that is not my goal, I just want you to know that what you think is a solution, is possibly more dangerous and life threatening than the problem you are trying to solve).

Pubmed has a warning box that suggests that you should know that you need this drug, and it points out that a typical schizophrenia patient has hallucinations or delusions.  Not simply a lack of desire to go outside today.

I hate stepping on people’s toes, and getting them upset with me, I know this will upset some people, but I also know that it might just save a few too.  If you are a person who sits in agreement with this article, I would ask you to ask yourself, would you sit in agreement if your world collapsed around you?  How do you know?  I don’t write this from a smug standpoint.  I write this from a commitment to an ideal and a philosophy, which is why I know that if the worst possible things happened in my life, I would still hold fast to these statements.  I hope you can gain knowledge and insight that will help improve and safeguard your life.

Stress Kills

Stress Kills – By Intern Mike Moss

In this day and age, people have to be pro-active about their health.  We are no longer living in the environment that our genetic code has been groomed for over the years that humans have existed.   During this time, our bodies have adapted the unique ability to deal with physical and mental stress in a healthy and constructive way.  In the modern day civilized society, the ways that we deal with stress are often times  counterproductive and actually Destructive to our overall health.  One of the biggest killers in our nation is stress, and the reason why that is, is that stress contributes to all disease process.  Chronic stress has been found to be a major cuplrit in diseases like Alzheimer’s, cancer, heart disease, obesity, stroke, an array of digestive disorders, memory and cognitive dysfunction, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue… even skin disorders! It is for this reason that mental and physical stress must be managed in a good and healthy way, so that we don’t create conditions within our bodies that would be favorable to disease process.

Cortisol and Catecholemines.

Our bodies are equipped with hormones that are designed to save us in a crisis.  You may have heard of cortisol and catecholemines (adrenaline and noradrenaline).  These are some of the most powerful and potent hormones we have in our bodies and they are quite useful.   They have the amazing ability to break down just about anything in your body (fats, protiens, carbohydrates) and turn it into simple sugars for the body to create energy.  Interestingly, our digestive system is even shut down, making it nearly impossible to digest and absorb the vitamins and minerals from the food that we eat.  These hormones are designed to be used in quick spurts, to buy you time to change your environment (ex. if you are running away from a tiger).  However, modern day civilization has a laundry list of stressors that our ancestors did not have.  Stress now comes in what seems like a hundred different forms.  Chronic stressors come from work, traffic, money issues, relationship issues, illnessess, and negative thoughts fueled by anger, fear, depression or hostility.  When we encounter physical or mental stress of any kind, our body responds by dumping cortisol and catecholamines into the blood stream.  The following are the effects of these stress homones, all of which will save your life if you happen to be running away from, say… a tiger.

increased blood sugar
increased blood pressure
increased blood cholesterol
immune system is shut down
inflammatory process is enhanced
increased heart rate (heart is working harder than it should be)
digestive system is shut down

How does it sound to constantly not have your immune system up and working, or to have high blood pressure or high blood sugar every day, or have your digestive system shut off even when you are eating and desperately trying to benefit from the health that food provides?  These are all signs of pending heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and cancer… our nation’s supposed top killers!   So, you might ask… why is my body trying to kill me? Well, cortisol is absolutely essential for survival, and  this can be observed in the lab when you remove the adrenal glands of an animal.  They become unable to fight off even minor illnesses or mental stress, where even a minor respiratory tract infection can lead to death.  The truth is, there lies a perfect balance between the use of cortisol and adrenaline, and the management of the effects of them.  How you choose to manage you stress will ultimately determine your overall health.   The most important and healthy way you can manage your stress is by movement.  Physical activity will enhance your body’s ability to regulate your cortisol and catecholemine levels.  Movement is a nutrient for your nervous system, and it stimulates your brain like you wouldn’t believe.  Did you know that every time you see the Chiropractor, he induces movement into your spine and stimulates your body immediately to reduce stress?  Yet, another great reason to see your Chiropractor!

Kill your stress!

Many of us have been lured into falsely thinking that we are relieving stress by popping a muscle relaxer, smoking a cigarette, drinking a beer, eating junk food, or being a couch potatoe.  These are not only damaging to our health and vitality, but they actually further induce stress into our lives.  We need to be conscious of how we deal with stress because there is a wrong way and there is a healthy way.

There are many healthy ways to reduce stress that have proven powerfully effective, physical activity being the top researched.  Some other ways that you can manage your stress in a healthy way include:

Yoga
Enjoying nature
Sleeping
Prayer
Meditation
Good nutrition
Coping skills (ex. deep breathing techniques)

Finding time to do what makes you happy… whether it be enjoying a sunset or a sunrise, being with a loved one, making love to your spouse, playing with a pet,  or going for a walk.

Dr Eric:  Great job from one of our great interns, be well, be blessed and surely do not be stressed!

Run Hard Against Adversity

I have had the opportunity to work with patients with almost every different disease or condition out there.  One of the most critical ways I have been able to help these people (beyond improving nervous system function) has been to help them run hard to win.  I don’t believe this is any message from me, but rather one that I am simply good at delivering.

At times I have had individuals who have not chosen to become patients, and I have seen these people choose not to push hard, to fight for the greatest possible outcome.  I am not saying that it only happens under our care, but I realize it only happens when you are being pushed and reminded that there are reasons to push for a long and healthy life.  Reasons beyond ourselves.

So the long setup is so that I can lower this message onto everyone reading, young and healthy, old and sick, and the opposite, the old and healthy and the young and sick.  Everyone.  At any point in time, you are traveling down a path towards health or disease.  It is your choice.  But it is moving one way or the other, you cannot stay put.

Repeat.  You CANNOT stay at the exact place of health for more than an instant.  Aging happens regardless, but aging is not directly related to health or disease.  Aging is related to proximity to death, but that is also altered significantly by your pursuit of health or your apathy towards it.

This is such an important concept.  Subluxation doesn’t sleep.  Your brain is always working to keep you well, and to heal you.  If there is a message running at 50%, then the tissue is weakening.  If you couple that with elevated toxins from your lifestyle, decreased nutrition, high stress and poor rest.  Is it any wonder that our population is sick?  What if you have been pursuing health for 5 years, and suddenly you are diagnosed with a condition?

Shocking?  Unexpected?  Of course.  Unfair?  Probably not, fair isn’t part of it, it is the result of the accumulation of positive and negative choices.  But does the unexpected mean you discard your pursuit, or increase it?  So many who face adversity in their health begin to give up even more.

I was talking with a new patient after a doctor’s report recently, and the discussion went to serum thiol.  Chiropractic has been shown to increase serum thiol levels.  Serum Thiol levels have been linked to health and disease… as they decrease, disease increases, as they increase health increases.  It is pretty cool to understand because these thiols repair DNA.  So as you are aging, your DNA is breaking down, and the higher your thiol levels, the more DNA repair that occurs, thus the greater health and longevity!  Cool!

My point actually lies in understanding that lifestyle choices promote thiol production, so it is directly correlated.  If you make poor lifestyle choices today, you will reduce your thiol levels.  So stop, breathe and read:

It doesn’t matter if you are fifteen or fifty.  If you reduce your thiol levels today, you will age faster than if you maintain them.  Your DNA will become more damaged and aged in this window of time, than it would have had you kept them high.  Can you make it up?  Unknown.

Everyday matters, resonate on that last point.  Don’t live in fear, make wise choices then live in confidence!

Nutrient Density

Why fruit is unnecessary in your diet.  This is a tough point for many people, it was for me.  I had people advise me to reduce the fruit consumption in my life for a number of years before I believed it was wise.  So why should you decrease fruit?  It is natural, it is tasty, better for you than packaged crackers, lunchables, and all sorts of toxic sludge that we eat.  Of course fruit should be eaten.

Well, the problem is that all that sugar is bad, just like sugar in high volume from other sources is bad.  Sugar causes fermentation in the gut, weakening the quality of your immune system significantly.  It has significant impact on your blood sugar, and as I wrote in my other blog a while back, it has glycemic effect that could lead to diabetes.

So for this short blog, I am going to count on you looking at the other blog link above, and understanding that you need to keep fruit in moderation.  So, the point I want to get across, is how crazy valuable the high density vegetables are.  Also a topic in one of my other blogs, I hope you will read that too.

But simply put, the total quantity of nutrients in vegetables is so high compared to fruit that you get three to four times more benefit from eating kale or bok choy, than a bowl of blueberries.  It is that significant.  I am keeping it short and sweet, because I want this to resonate.

Eat fruit, but eat 3 times as many vegetables every single day.

Juice Plus is a recommended supplement to help make that happen.  I truly believe that every single one of you NOT eating 10 servings of vegetables and fruit a day, should be taking it.  But try to eat the food first!

Be well – God has supplied an abundance for us.  Dr. E

Tolerance is garbage, think Love…

I know I tend to write a lot about Love, and for you who are trying to figure out if you should eat the refined coconut oil vs. the virgin unrefined, all this love talk doesn’t help!  However, I just need to write a bit about it, and honestly, I bet if most of you would take a small step in the direction of love, vs. diet, you would get bigger results!

My wife grew up for her first five years in California, outside of LA in the town of Tujunga.  She moved away with few memories, but enough to call it her first home still.  She had a childhood friend whom she had doen everything with for about four of those five years, and that included joint family vacations.  When Laura and I just started dating (I was 15 at the time) her friend from California, Deana, came out to Buffalo to visit for two weeks.  That was the first of two times in my life that I got to spend any time with her.  The second was on my honeymoon (24 yrs old now) on our way back from Hawaii, we spent three days driving along the California coastline.

We saw Deana and met her husband and her daughter.  Laura has stayed in touch, and facebook has helped.  Deana later had a son followed again by another girl.  Deana’s family just made national news this past week.  Her son Drew ran from the roof of a three story building at his school during lunch and killed himself.  It has been a difficult time for Laura to know how to help her, and obviously an eternally difficult time for Deana.  The news stories suggest that it was depression, and the investigators involved believe that.  Though Deana and her husband are confident that it was due to bullying.

My thought, as we have been hearing more and more about bullying, and the issues associated with it, the term tolerance often comes out.  We need to accept people for whom they are and tolerate difference; or there is a “no tolerance” policy for bullying.  The term flies on both sides of the fence, and it is still falls short.  Christ didn’t walk the earth tolerating people.  Today I walked by a man digging in a garbage can for food outside of Zoo Atlanta.  Is it special that I tolerated him as I walked by?

Love and tolerance are so in opposition.  Listen to this, I have a lot of love for everyone in my heart, I tolerate other religions without question as I have many friends who do not believe that Christ is the lone Messiah as I believe, but I actually love these friends.  And my actions show it.  So WHY do I not show love to someone else who really needs it?  I know that I probably do show love more than many, but still, it is SOOOO far from being enough.  And here is the real problem, if we are teaching tolerance, not love… then HOW far short will a teenager fall from actually loving?

Laura spoke with Deana this evening, this is a rough time for her, but she is on a mission.  She is thinking like I am thinking.  That they need to start teaching compassion.  That high school kids really stink at getting the “high” of helping, but if they are taught that, if they are pushed into environments where they get a chance to help someone, then they can get the “high” of helping, and get hooked on it!  I love this idea, I love this concept.  And though I don’t know exactly what their plan is to help drive the education of compassion, I know I am all for it.

So skip that tolerance crap, start to love!  Drew’s memory deserves it.  Their new foundation is getting started, it is called “Drew’s Voice”, and as long as they continue to push the idea of teaching and nurturing compassion and love, I am on it!  Be well, be blessed, love someone today!  – Dr. E

Happy Presidents Day!

February 22nd and February 12th are the two special days that come together to give us this day.  Washington and Lincoln.  These two Christian Presidents did so much for our country that it has been years that their birthdays were celebrated as two separate holidays.  Today we have lumped them together, and perhaps in most instances we don’t even stop to recognize their efforts in our country.

President Washington was obviously extremely important in getting this country off the ground, helping to separate from England and establishing a government that would lead us into the world power that we had become.  Sadly I think he would feel scorned if he saw what was happening in our government today.  But the man was an incredible positive world shaper, a world changer.

Washington did many great things, but I appreciation that he was dissatisfied with the Articles Of Confederation for their relative weakness, and presided over the drafting of our Constitution.  This effort was not singularly obviously, and one of his greatest achievements was in aiding to bring together such a talented group of individuals to draft the Constitution.  He was a leader through and through, and his ability to lead such talented men is evidence of it.

Lincoln too was a world changer, and perhaps the most outspoken Christian of our American Presidents.  He let his faith in God guide his actions and he relied on it publicly many times.  It was wondered if he took much of the Old Testament as literal truth, as he has said things that would suggest otherwise, but he was a devout follower of Christ.

“In regard to this Great book, I have but to say, it is the best gift God has given to man. All the good the Savior gave to the world was communicated through this book. But for it we could not know right from wrong. All things most desirable for man’s welfare, here and hereafter, are to be found portrayed in it.” – Abraham Lincoln

I appreciate the story that surrounds Lincoln and this picture of him reading the “Bible”.  He was actually looking at a photograph album, but was concerned that people would believe it was meant to be a Bible.  This concern came because he did not want to be portrayed as reading a Bible, “just for a photograph”, as it would look like it was him using the Bible for publicity.  Pretty honest and high integrity!

So today, consider what these two men have done for you, and celebrate the day!  God Bless – Dr. E

Amy’s Story, and why it matters to you…

Wednesday I was going through my doctor’s report, and in the middle of the pre and post x-ray review, I realized that I needed to re-tell her story to you.  Yes, you, not the person next to you, but you.  This is a story that every one of you has heard, and for most it has been too long ago (you should come back through another doc report to be reminded of how important your spine is).

So Amy was the patient who had been under ten years of care before coming in, it was relief care for her migraines.  She had suffered such frequent migraines that she had journaled 220  separate days that she had thrown up from her migraines.  Pretty bad.  After trying to kill herself due to incredible depression over her state of health, she took steps to get chiropractic results.  And after ten years of chiropractic care, she seemed to be stuck with the 30 annual migraines that she was experiencing.  There was no further to go.  These were harsh migraines, causing her to vomit from the pain, and in most cases lasting for two days.

If you remember the story, Amy’s real story comes after she started getting adjusted by us.  She turned over a new leaf, changing her focus from her pain, to her problem.  Many of you have forgotten this, and you come in discussing your pains, not your problems.  Your problems drive your pains, and your solution is to stop focusing on your pain, and to focus instead on the solution of your problem.  When looking at her x-ray she properly described her problem as being that her organs were not healing due to her subluxations, and that she was dying.  She went on to describe her brain stem as being compressed, and that her migraines were the symptom, not the actual problem.  Amy got it.  And by getting it, her story began to unfold.

She became very committed, asking about all activities and exercises that she could do to get well.  She was aggressive, doing them more than prescribed, and constantly asking for new ideas, assurances and support with her care.  She was forcing herself to get well.  The above image is a negative 8 degree cervical curve (normal is positive 43 degrees), and an 8 degree atlas (normal is 31 degrees or greater).  She was scared for her well being, but strengthened by the commitment to fix it that we had portrayed.

In six short months through a committed process, and following through with care at every level, she was holding a 25 degree cervical curve, a 27 degree atlas and much to her enjoyment she was headache free.  She did however comment on her commitment to getting well, and not just getting symptom free.

As she continued working really hard to get full change, she paved the way for you to do the same.  Isn’t it all too common how we assume we are well, as soon as we get a positive change in our symptoms?  We begin to feel we are healthy because we feel good.  And I would tell you that it is garbage.  That you need to pursue health with all of your ability until there is nothing left to pursue.  Amy did this, even as she felt better, she pursued.  In the first x-ray, her neck is a mess.  She is dying quietly, and quickly with disease reaching out to her before her time.  She went headache free after one month of care… meaning her neck would still have looked awful, silent death moving towards her, even though her headaches were gone.

If we would have acted like most, she might have left care, or stopped her home therapy, or we would have stopped pushing her to be committed, and she would still be a mess.  Instead she got to the second x-ray and beyond.  I don’t know where you are in your pursuit right now, but the truth is that anyone can start over and get re-committed.  If you need to, then do it now.  There is too much riding on it.  God Bless, don’t live in fear, take great strides towards health and live in confidence!  – Dr. E
